Problems with Radeon 9100 and Omega drivers

I have a brand new Sapphire Radeon 9100 Atlantis (128 MB model), but I also have alot of problems with it and the newest Omega drivers.

First after I installed this card I tried Catalyst 3.1 drivers. They appeared to work just fine, but when I tried to play some games with it problems started to appear. Here are the problems I got:

-1024x768 resolution isn't working in the most games. It just isn't avaible to chose from. This might be a reason of program called ATi Refresh Fix (v0.9.9.7) which I use to control my refresh rates.

-In some 3D games textures are blinking very badly (for example Unreal II and Black Hawk Down demo)

-There are also some other problems like small 2D graphics in some games turning into "lines" or getting mesy some other way.

After this I tried Catalyst 2.2 (shipped with the card itself), 2.5 and 3.0 drivers, but all had the same problems.

Then I tried the Omega drivers. The installation file extraction went just fine, but the installation program itself ends to some INF-error after I answer YES to the licence agreement. "INF error. Display driver not found"

I removed the ATi Control Panel (manually, because the Add & Remove programs didn't work. I removed all the registry keys, automatically starting programs and ATi Control Panel files from the Program Files dir) before the installation.

I tried to install Omega drivers in the Safe Mode and VGA mode. I also tried to remove the display driver (Windows XP automatically installed those drivers back in the startup, so I also tried to disable the display adapter from the Device Manager). None of this helped.

If this helps anything heres my specs:
Soltek SL-75KAV (KT133A)
AMD Athlon XP 1800+
512 Mt (133 MHz DIMM)
Sapphire Radeon 9100 Atlantis (4xAGP, 128 Mt DDR)
Windows XP Pro (DX9, SP1)

I haven't tweaked with that 9100 by anyway.

I sorry my bad english, but hopefully you make some sense out of that...

Now I did everything listed in that "driver guide for noobs" which is found on this forum.
I removed all those inf and pnf files and registry components. Still Omega drivers gave me just that INF error.

(I installed Catalyst 3.1 drivers)

This time I didn't intialize ATi Refresh Fix and beacuse of that I was able to use 1024x768 resolution in all games, but 1024x768 mode worked only in 75 Hz refresh rate mode. I have DDC disabled. Windows tells me that the largest refresh rate for my monitor is 75 Hz in 1024x768 mode. My monitor is optimized for 85 Hz in 640x480, 800x600 and 1024x768 modes and it worked perfectly in 1024x768 85 Hz mode with GeForce 2 MX card (and Windows 98 SE).

My monitor is nearly ancient IBM 2237 C71.

So if I use this ATi Refresh Fix program to fix refresh rates I cannot use 1024x768 resolution at all in the most of the games. And then there's those nasty graphic errors.

I talked to this one PC genius frend of mine and he adviced me to try Omega drivers. But I just can't install them...

If u had read the whole omegadrivers thread on this forum u would have read that omega made a mistake in the .ini files in his drivers. U should extract the install file (or u might find the files in program files/omega drivers/ ) and open the .ini files . At the end of the driverpath he uses 4 semicolons between the number/letters , u should change those semicolons in comma's in the 2 .ini files .
If u don't understand look for a clear explanation in the sticky new omegadrivers thread

grtz

I got Omegas installed, but I still have all those graphic errors.

I took my pc to the shop where I bought it from. They didn't have anykind of problems so I think all this is coming from my old IBM monitor.

Are u sure it isn't a heat issue ,do you have blinking textures directly or only after playing your game for a while?
try feeling how hot the memory of your 9100 gets after an hour playing unreal 2 , if it is real hot some extra cooling might fix your problem.

Textures are blinking directly, but I think I check those memories.

At the shop everything worked perfect ? They only put on another monitor , no other changes ?
Maybe it is your monitor then , although I never heard of a monitor causing that, does'nt seem likely to me either. It might be colder in the shop then at your home , don't put your pc next to a radiator

I think too that this kind of errors couldn't be caused by a monitor.

I even have problems with games that worked nice with this same monitor and GeForce 2 card.
Could my Radeon be somehow damaged? It has done this from the beginning.

I changed my card to Gainward's GeForce 3 Ti200 (128 MB model) which is one of the only GeForce 3 cards avaible. All my probs are gone now.
