Sad Need Help, My Computer is Mad At Me

I've just recently gotten into trying the Omega driver for my computer after becoming fed up with ATi's drivers. However, after installing them, I decided to do some benchmarking to determine the performance gains associated with the drivers. I performed the first benchmark with the Omega driver installed, then uninstalled them (probably improperly) and rebooted. The Windows login screen comes up as my computer boots, I log in, the Windows XP welcome music pl-pl-pl-pl... computer reboots?!?!

This has been happening consistently, and now my system will not allow me to log in for more than a second or two (if I hurry logging in, otherwise it just reboots in the login screen). Booting into safe mode yields a stable log in, and I've tried to re-install the Omega driverss or the ATi drivers multiple times to no avail upon normal boot. I'm not sure if it's specifically the Omega driver that is causing this problem, but I know that it has something to do with my woes.

I really would appreciate any suggestions on how to fix this without having to re-install Windows.

Thanks

EDIT: Oops! Almost forgot my specs:

ATi Radeon x1900xt
AMD X2 Athlon 64 4200+
2GB XMS2 DDR2 RAM
Asus M2N-SLI Deluxe Mobo

EDIT: Also... a suspiciously similar amount of time passes between login and reboot in normal mode and login and a message appearing saying "Can't open AsIO.sys !!" in safe mode.

try http://drivercleaner.net
in safe mode remove all the ati entries but IGP then try booting normally

edit:
about that asio.sys try uninstalling pc probe if you have it

http://hardware.mcse.ms/archive69-2006-2-242879.html
I have a similar problem. When I Start my new ASUS P5WD2 PREMIUM
running WinXP 64-bit, I get an error, "can't open
AsIO.sys!!(2)". This also happens when I use PC ProbeII
v1.00.43. I've called ASUS tech. support and they swear it's not
their utilities. They said I was the first person to report this
problem. Obviously this is an ASUS problem, other people I've read
from report this with ASUS MBs. This error is annoying, but after I
click it there's no real problem. The only thing it prvents is some
features of PC ProbeII (not many).

Greetings and welcome to Driverheaven!

When you boot the next time into Safemode, go into the Device Manager and REMOVE/UNINSTALL both instances of your graphics card.

Use the ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS to uninstall any and all ATI/Omega-related drivers.

Now, reboot and this will force Windows to redetect your video card. Proceed with installing the official drivers first to make sure you have a stable system once again.

Good luck!

I tried both of your suggestions. Unfortunately, neither worked Maybe it isn't the video card that's the problem? Should I just give up and evacuate my files and re-install Windows?

If you have a Windows CD, you likely don't have to resort to a full format and clean installation.

Just setup the BIOS to boot from your Windows CD and then proceed with a REPAIR install. Usually, this can be accomplished in half an hour or so and, your programs and files will be intact.

Since you can't get into Windows without a reboot, I'm not sure you can rescue anything otherwise.

Fixed it! I guess it was the drivers that were giving me the problem. I just repaired and booted. Thanks for the help
