Resolution scaling problem, omega 6.7's
Hi guys i'm new here and have a little problem, maybe someone can help.
Just bought a 21inch widescreen native res 1680x1050. I only play BF2 which doesn't support this res, u can edit the command line but playing at this res cuts off portions of the top and bottom of the screen = not an option for me. I concluded that the best res I could play at with my screen is 1400x1050 keeping a 4:3 aspect and having black bars down sides (still better than the 1280x1024 i was used to). However the ATI cats 6.8 don't support that res, only 1360x1024. By ticking the "centrd timings" option I could play at this res with black bars on the side and top and bottom of image, but i wanted 1400x1050. So I installed the latest omega drivers with ati tray tools. yes they do 1400x1050, yes BF2 supports this res, but i can't stop the drivers from scaling up the image to fill the screen - so the picture is strethed and fuzzy. I went to ATI tray>display>settings>options & unticked "scale image to panel size" but when i start the game in 1400x1050 it scales up to fill the screen still. Then i went ATI tray>display>display properties>advanced>displays>fpd (my display) and unticked "scale image" there. This also has no effect when I start the game the image is upscaled. When I used to use the ATI driver and ccc, ticking "use centred timings" would never scale up an image. Any ideas? thanks in advance for any help

Does the monitor itself have a scaling option? Its the best way of controlling it if it does.

Well the monitor has a widescreen mode, or a 4:3 mode. but In the menu there is nothing else which indicates u can change scaling
.would i be able to use the omega driver so getting 1400x1050, but with CCC controlling the settings so i can tell it to use centred timings ?

You say that the ati drivers and ccc work great but dont offer the rez you want, right? How about going back to the regular ati drivers/ccc and using powerstrip to add the rez you want? You shouldn't have to keep powerstrip installed, just set the rez and uninstall it (it should stick in the ccc).

Thanks for the advice. I dont have powerstripe, i'll have a look for it.
So i will be able to set a custom res eg 1400x1050, which will then be recognised and kept by ccc? I thought the reason why CCC dosen't have this res is because the ATI driver doesn't support it ?

Yup, it will work just fine and the driver itself will have no issues with it. Tbh I do not know why ati is taking this long to add proper support for widescreen lcd displays. You can find powerstrip here

Thanks. I downloaded powerstrip and have added a custom res 1400x1050, which is indeed picked up by CCC.
I hope I set the res up properly because there was all sorts of advanced stuff like "front porch, back porch" etc etc. I just chose a standard predefined 1400x1050 @ 60hz and didnt change anything else. hope it works. I'l test it out 2mrw. many thanks for all your help BTW

Yeah well looks like success here.
I reinstalled Ati 6.8 and CCC, set up a custom res in powerstrip =1400x1050, by using one of there pre-defined resolutions - so I hope thats taken care of all the complex timing stuff. I chose 1400x1050 @ 60hz with "standard windows timing "option. Those who may be interested in setting up a custom res a guide can be found here http://www.entechtaiwan.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=24 Now bf2 starts in this res and looks beautiful on high at 6xAA .Thanks for the info
