CAT6.9,ATT,FEAR problem

Last weekend I installed the CAT 6.9 driver w/o CCC and installed ATI Tray Tool
v1.2.6.940 for my 1900XT. I set up a "normal" profile (2D settings) and a gaming
profile (GPU 672MHz/MEM 806MHz). I disabled Hotkey Poller in services.msc and I
have been manually starting the gaming profile before I start a game. I've been playing
the COD series and DOOM3 with no problems. I also set custom fan settings in ATT. I
have the OSD set to show me FPS, GPU,MEM, and FAN speeds, and GPU temp.
When I load a profile, whether going up or down, I hear my fan give a short burst of
speed and I can see the speeds listed when I point to the ATT tray icon.

Tonight, after loading the game profile and verifying the settings, I loaded up F.E.A.R.
to start getting myself pumped up for the new F.E.A.R. expansion pack coming out. I
noticed after the game started that the OSD has my GPU and MEM listed at the
"normal" 2D speeds. I did NOT hear the burst of fan speed if F.E.A.R. slowed the
GPU and MEM speeds down . I'm playing the game at 1280 x 960 with all settings at
max, soft shadows off, 4XFSAA and 8XAF. It seems to be playing pretty smooth with
the FPS staying between 30-50 during the game. Using the settings test built into
F.E.A.R., I got 5% <25, 40% 25-40, 55%>40 using my "normal" profile. Using the
"gaming" profile, I got 7% <25, 42% 25-40, 51%>40. Not much difference. But I could
tell that my new fan setting were working during gameplay. And when I quit the game,
I point to my ATT icon and it shows game profile speeds again.

I'm not really complaining of the performance. But I can't tell what speeds my graphics
card is using while playing F.E.A.R. While playing other games, the OSD has my
speeds listed at the gaming profile speeds, but with F.E.A.R. it shows them at 2D
speeds.

Any ideas?
Thank you
Mark

Something else I noticed. When I'm at my desktop, I can bring up the ATT menu and there is an asterik beside the profile I have chosen. This is before and after playing other games. After playing FEAR, I bring up the ATT menu, and there are no asteriks beside either of the profiles. If I start another game after playing FEAR, without choosing an ATT profile, the OSD shows the graphics running at 2D speeds in that game also.

your OC is within the limits of CCC. NO need for ATI Tool in that respect. As for fan and heating issues, an Accelero X2 will do you a lot of good (they're like $20). Also you can take a look @ my custom x1900 bios thread http://forums.anandtech.com/messagev...readid=1875099
