exclamation X1600 problems with Omega drivers

There have been some issues with the Omega drivers and the X1600 in my Acer Travelmate 8200 (and I know of 3 other people with the same problem).

1. Has happened since 38205 (when I first started using Omega drivers). Periodically, the ATI Hotkey Poller will freak the hell out. There are two copies of ati2evxx.exe running, and one of them goes to 100%. at the same time, the displays start turning on and off. I run with two external diplays connected, but this also happens with 1 external and internal and even only on internal. Screens flash on and off. You here the device attach/detach sound over and over. If you can wrest control back enough to kill ati2evxx it INSTANTLY stops. This is fine, but if I turn off this service, the driver no longer remembers my different configurations (at home 2 x 1280x1024 monitors, at work 2 x 1680x1050 monitors) which means lots of screwing with the control panel.

Note that this happens even with just the internal screen of the laptop, only then it's constantly redrawing the desktop, etc. I also see from checking google that other people on other hardware have this problem.

2. Starting with 38291 (the current version) the computer will no longer come out of standby. Prior to this, it worked fine. Now it comes out halfway and stays on a black screen, forcing a reboot. This has been validated on 3 different notebooks.

I'm not sure if the problem is Omega or ATI on these. SO I thought I'd start here.

Thanks.

#2 above happens with the DHzer0point drivers as well.

and one more thing with the newest catalyst - unplugging from the docking station now results in a blue screen. this never used to happen. I'm going to need to revert to a previous version. this happens both with Omega and zer0point.

So after a lot more testing, the standby problem (computer won't come out of standby) happens in both zer0point and omega based on newest catalyst.

going back one version, the standby problem is gone.

both drivers exhibit bizarre behavious with ATI Hotkey Poller running. periodically on the Omega drivers, the displays start switching back and forth over and over for a period of time. This happens with external monitors but it even happens with the internal LCD screen - it just goes apeshit and the display starts flashing like it's being redetected.

The zer0points just refuse to let me have my digital display as my primary. It'll be fine for 10 misn then suddenly switch them around so the analog connector is primary. I'll switch back with ccc to my profile, and after 10 mins it'll switch back again. very irritating. all "auto detects" in all profiles in the CCC are disabled.

Ideas?
