Sapphire Radeon x1650 XT detected as 'x1950 series' wrong drivers?

Hello, I just recently bought this card and used the drivers that came with it in the box the cd says

Catalyst driver suite version 6.10 and the driver ver is 12-059.

I fired up oblivion and noticed it couldnt detect my graphics card and it wont let me activate HD and AA I was reading that any card in the radeon series above x1000 can run both of these at once. I know this is minor but it really pisses me off that i've payed for a card that should be able to do this and it isnt.

Should I be using different drivers or do i just have a dud card?

I beleive you have to force AA in the CCC (catalyst Control Center) to get AA working, then just turn on HDR in the game.

Not completely sure though.

is this how it normally works with all of them or is it jsut for my gfx card? I just uninstalled the drivers and dont want to reinstall them again for nothing i want to be able to activate it in game alogn with everyone else if that's how its done

Now you might get the newest drivers for your card at http://ati.amd.com

The new cata drivers dont support my card. It says it does but when u click to download u get this thing saying its not supporting the X1650 XT and that you can dl these drivers if you've lost your old ones.

I just tried the ATI drivers on the website that are for my card and the say 'setup did not find a driver compatible with your current hardware or operating system' then you click ok and it says 'setup was unable to complete installtion, try set up your display adapter with a standard vga driver' where do I get a vga driver from?

Now that's odd if official ATi CAT 6.11 won't work...
That standard vga driver is Microsoft's driver and it comes with windows...

[EDIT2] So it seems that you have to use the drivers from the installation CD .... until ATi releases CAT 6.12

edit#2: and forcing aa in the cc lert me have it in oblivion?

For edit1: 1 to 2 weeks or less or more...

For edit2: you must do it in the CCC ....

No the drivers aren't really ready for your card...

i don't think you bought a dud card.. i think you bought a card that's so new, that you can only use the drivers available on the cd.

And as far as i know, Everyone else that plays oblivion has to open up the CCC and apply there own AA settings. No one can apply it within the game itself. (i blame nvidia)

So I goto the ccc and click 3d then anti-aliasing and then uncheck 'let application decide' and put it on whatever I desire? Should I use temporal anti-aliasing and adaptive antaliasing? I dont need to touch the Anisotropic filter as I can change that in games right? and catalist ai do i put it on standard or advanced or just turn it off?

yes with the AA, i'd recommend 2x fsaa to start with (without changing anything else, leave temporal anti aliasing unchecked and adaptive unchecked). Leave everything else at defaults.

Fire up the game and see if the settings have applied correctly.

Then you can trial and error everything, check temporal AA and load the game to see if you are still pleased with the visual quality and IF the games performance has improved.

Enable Adaptive and try it, see if you still like the resulting AA. It's your own choice what settings you wish to enable. You have to choose between a more smoother gameplay, or better graphics, and by trial and error, you can figure out the perfect balance between the 2 by playing with these settings.

I'd suggest you leave Catalyst AI to standard though.

gaud dammit.. of course they just came out.... i just finished installing/setting up a new system with the 6.11's.... i swear... they track my ip and after i've checked, they wait a few minutes and post them...
