Read Me (EATM + AlphaSharpenMode + ATI Tray Tools)
For those wondering about EATM and AlphaSharpenMode in ATI Tray Tools here is the file with the tweaks added into the database for "Advanced Tweaks" under the Tweaks menu.
http://www.gigasize.com/get.php/2336...AF_Methods.rar This is my preset file uploaded, I have the necessary tweaks loaded and working. This file also has 2 other Alpha Sharpen tweaks available, so play around and see what works best/looks best for you. Unrar this file to C:\Program Files\Ray Adams\ATI Tray Tools\Database It will replace your New AA and AF methods.dtb file this is normal. Adjust accordingly to your drive lettering. After you add this goto tweaks, and advanced tweaks and then New AA and AF Methods and enable EATM and AlphaSharpenMode. Enjoy =D EDIT: Also for your convenience the most recent release of ATI Tray Tools 1.2.6.964 http://www.radeon2.ru/atitray/attsetup.exe Last edited by ChaosMinionX; Dec 14, 2006 at 08:15 AM. |

Does this actually work? a few other posts in the 6.12 beta said that this can cause crashs and its best to use in reg..
*confused*

is EATM improved in the 6.12 cats? because in 6.11 on some games it looked nasty!
also i am right in thinking EATM and AlphaSharpenMode is a replacement for AAA but without the fps hit that AAA has?

U are correct, but I hope it replaces AAA fully and we no longer see AAA in CCC, but EATM

Sorry, Im am slightly confused here. So I can see this is a replacement for AAA, so I guess this does not need to be enabled in ATT (as that would kindda defeat the object), But does standard AA have to be set, or just left at Application Controlled?

Well, as far as i understand, EATM needs to have AA (NOT AAA) activated. I myself use the reg-tweaks (both set to 1) and then force AA in my games through my CCC-profiles.
Iīve tested this in Oblivion and the diffrence is huge. Where oblivion was mostly unplayable with AAA, EATM works just fine Cant wait for it to be included in the CCC.

Well no, but i think that this works the same way AdaptiveAA works. If regular AA is off, then so is AAA (i think at least) - and also EATM. So when you want EATM, you have to enable regular AA aswell. Im not 100% sure though.
Someone needs to confirm this before you should take it as fact

Here is a condensed version of what I have found so far.
EATM & ATMAlphaSharpenmode to your ATI video card (ATMAlphaSharpenScale & ATMAlphaSharpenBias can be added as a bonus) Enable EATM is like Adaptive Anti-Aliasing but has reduced performance hit vs. Adaptive Anti-Aliasing. EATM increases alpha Coverage/Detail and it's noticeable in games like Wow, Oblivion, etc (games that use vegetation, etc). Here is an example: Adaptive Anti-Aliasing (EATM OFF) http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a1...ormanceye8.jpg http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a1...E_EATM_OFF.jpg http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a1...Y_EATM_OFF.jpg EATM http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a1...TM/eatmso1.jpg http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a1...CE_EATM_ON.jpg http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a1...RY_EATM_ON.jpg You cannot see the difference until you open this pics up in their own FF or IE tab or window and switch views. In order to obtain this level of quality with increase frame rate here is what you need to do: You need Cat 6.12 (this only works for ATI Video Cards) Download ATI Tool Tray 1.2.6.964: http://www.guru3d.com/article/atitraytools/189/ Enable EATM by Going into Tweaks, then Advanced Tweaks, then in the drop down menu select New AA and AF methods. EATM should be the 4th one down. Then check EATM. Activate EATM through ATI Tray Tools. Search for EATM in your registry. Once found Add ATMAlphaSharpenMode as new string. Then add the value of 1 You can also add ATMAlphaSharpenBias & ATMAlphaSharpenScale as a string if you like. Then add the value of 1 for each. Disable Adaptive Anti-Aliasing in CCC. You can keep it enabled but you will notice a big hit in Frame Rate. Enable AA either in game or through CCC Reboot then play your game. Or If you want to use ATI Tool Tray instead of messing with the registry do this (please note that some have reported crashes using ATI Tool Tray instead of the Registry): Make sure you have Cat 6.12 installed. Install the latest version of ATT 1.2.6.964: http://www.guru3d.com/article/atitraytools/189/ Install ATI Tool Tray. Go to X:\Program Files\Ray Adams\ATI Tray Tools\Database and open New AA & AF Method.dtb with wordpad. Add the following commands after "Value12=ZMRA,ZMRA,0,0,0," Value13=ATMAlphaFix,ATMAlphaFix,0,0,0, Value14=ATMAlphaSharpenBias,ATMAlphaSharpenBias,0, 0,0, Value15=ATMAlphaSharpenmode,ATMAlphaSharpenmode,0, 0,0, Value16=ATMAlphaSharpenScale,ATMAlphaSharpenScale, 0,0,0, Caution this creates binary value NOT String value in your registry -------- Enabled EATM and the ATMA's Reboot and start your game with ATT enabled. (make sure these tweakes are enabled). In BF2 clear your cache (BF2 should tell you that it's optimizing shaders if your don't.) You can reboot the registry without restarting. You hit Ctlr-Alt-Dlt then go to processes, remove Explorer.exe. Go to File, new task and enter: explorer, hit the enter button and your are done. Side Effects: transparent Alpha blends found in this example: ![]() Side effects are the result of games not really using this type of method IMO. However, the benefits in increased frame rate with better overall view outweighs this. Another side effect is using Media Player Classic and WMP11 you may or may not experience OS crashing / freezing with switch to blank screen. No one knows what ATI Cards this will not work with. So far I've seen people post from x800 to x1950, this is all I know so far. Side Note: EATM and ATMAlphaSharpenMode have values greater then 1. However, because the games are not designed to take advantage of this feature (& because ATI has not officially supported this feature yet) you may get less then desirable results. http://www.rage3d.com/board/showthread.php?t=33876334 <---link http://www.hardwareheaven.com/windows-xp-radeon-display-drivers/125073-eatm-alphasharpenmode-reg-settings.html <-----Link Last edited by Eeastcoasthandle; Dec 18, 2006 at 05:24 AM. |

Moral of the story? Make sure you have enough voltage on your ram as this game is heavy on ram useage. If the ram is not right you can get a CTD from BF2. This is only 1 of several possible solutions to CTD problem. |

Does ATT create strings in your registry? When I checked it created binary, not string. I had to manually edit the registry myself and use the string version and delete the binary version of it. This maybe the reason why people are having problems??

see here and here they're more visible a lower reslution (here 1024*768) and appears as soon as i enable ATMAlphaSharpenmode (activated with AtiTTools). With EATM only, water is ok, but trees are translucent. I don't think it can be my game settings (maxed, hdr) or hardware (1800xt, stock clocks, no optimisations, just Catalyst Ai on low, AF forced to 8x and AA to 4x) as i've tried playing with them and the only one affecting these artifacts is ATMAlphaSharpenmode. I've also return my oblivion.ini to default and tried with and without different water mods... no use. Has anyone already noticed this ? Last edited by ohmygodie; Dec 19, 2006 at 01:14 AM. |

Since you are using ATT make sure its not setting a value of 2 in your registry. Setting a value of 2 usually sharpens Alpha Textures that are closer to you but the checkerboard effect re-appears the farther the Alpha Texture is away.

Alot of us are finding that our systems are alot more stable if we do not use ATT to add the EATM values. I have not experienced one crash at all with EATM enabled. Hell I even had EATM enabled on my 9800 Pro Mobility for WoW.
