??? Installed 9.12 with help of ModtoolV4 but have problems...

Hello everyone,
First I must say a huge thanks to everyone who helps making all these driver updates for us all!!!
I used to use the lastest omega driver but I thought I would try using ModtoolV4 and have catalyst 9.12 the official driver installed on my GatewayM675XL with a readon mobility 9700 on it.

It all went well BUT all menus open reallllllllllllllllllly slow. I mean if I right click on desktop it takes a whole 4-5 sec to open. Any menus take ages and the PC seems a little sluggish. Can this be due to .net 2.0 I needed to install to use modtool?

Thank you to anyone who can help me out with this! Maybe someone can suggest a better driver but it would be nice if I could use the newest catalysts using modtool.

Ohh is the NGO driver better? Im trying it out now anyone use it with the ATI 9700?

edit: damn didnt notice that its not compatible with the mobile cards. So its only Omega or the original ati drivers that work with mobile cards? Someone must be able to suggest the best driver for gaming. Pretty plz lol :P

No .Net is not needed for Mobility Modder to run. If you do choose to use the official CCC then yes you will never to install .Net 1.1 or 2 or 3. Don't install all of them though, just use one.

Most of the time though with slow menus loading can be attributed to the VGART driver. If you open your CCC in advanced view you should see and option for SMARTGART. Are these enabled?? If yes then the driver may not have set the VGART up properly and this could be caused by an outdate GART driver. When you uninstalled your old driver and since it was the latest there have been reports of the driver uninstall removing the GART driver at the same time.

Since your notebook is use the 865PE chipset I would suggest doing the follow:

1.) Download and install drivercleaner.
2.) Uninstall all ATI drivers and Intel Chipset drivers from add/remove programs.
3.) Boot into safemode and open driver cleaner. Make sure to first clean the DRIVER.CAB and SP2.CAB and then clean all ATI options.
4.) Install the latest version of Directx from here:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en
5.) Next download the latest chipset for your system:
http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scri...D=816&lang=eng
6.) Next download and install the which ever version of .net you want. I recommend .net 2. You can get it here:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en
7.) Download the latest version of Mobility Modder and the Catalyst 6.12 driver. Run the install for the 6.12 driver. When it reaches the ATI Sofware screen click cancel and run Mobility Modder. When prompted if you want to install choose no and close the program. Next go to the ATI folder located on the C: open the progam and located the setup exe and run the express setup.
8.) After you restart let the computer sit till you see the ATI CCC icon appear on your task bar at the bottom right.

if you are still experiencing slow menus and such, disable AGP fastwrites in the CCC options under SMARTGART. Hopefuly this helps.

Thank you for your advice. The menus open fast now. And windows is running smoothly again. BUT when playing some games the whole PC freezes. I donno why. Maybe you can think about a few settings I can change to make things easier on my GFX card.

I really appreciate your help.

Should I try another dirver? Like can I use the NGO driver? Is it better then the omega or Ati drivers? I mean is there a way to get it to work on mobility versions?

When you own a laptop it is not a question of what driver is better, it is a question of what driver will work with my laptop. I have never owned a laptop but I do know that not any driver can be modded for every laptop, especially third party drivers like omega or ngo. Some laptop owners never get to install any driver but the one that comes with there laptop or a updated release from the mfg of the system.

Sadly the lazy ppl at gateway dont bother making drivers for some cards after only 2-3 years. I know that using ModTool I can get the official drive working and Omega drives all worked in the past. I just wanted to have 6.12 working on this PC.

Have you tried installing older NGO drivers to see if they worked.
These drivers use the old CP and not CCC.

Are there any forums on the gateway site or other laptop specific forums that you have looked at to see if users with the same laptop have had success with the 6.12 drivers?

On my Dell XPS which uses a 865 chipset aswell but has a 9800 Pro Mobility I set my settings in CCC to the following:

3D Settings - Custom
Antialiasing - Application Preference
Adaptive Antialiasing - Disabled
Anisotropic Filtering - Application Prefrence
Catalyst AI - Adavanced
Mipmap Detail - Quality
All Settings/Wait For Vertical Retrace - Always Off
API Specific/Geometry Instancing - Enabled
API Specific/Support DXT Texture Formats - Enabled
API Specific/Alternate Pixel Center - Disabled
API Specific/Tripple Buffering - Enabled
API Specific/Force 24Bit ZBuffer - Enabled
PowerNow - Disabled
VPU Recover - Disabled
SMARTGART - Everything Enabled

I find this works best for my system, although Dell has provided Bios updates for both the motherboard and video card where Gateway has not.

Give this a try, uninstall .Net 2.0 and install .Net 1.1 Redistributeable, its rare but in some cases on older video cards CCC favors .Net 1.1. See if that makes any difference.
