Default Post Problem with ATI Radeon 9700 card

I am new 2 this forum and to ATI cards so i just wanted to ask something...
here it goes

I had a GF2MX card.I removed nvidia drivers took and installed my Radeon Card with Catalyst 3.1 drivers but it seem to freeze while in windows and watching movies(divx) and in Warcraft III, in warcraft iii it freezes for good need to reboot. I was thinking that it my be better to format my PC and do a clean installation of Win2k, but I was thinking maybe I could find another way.
Would the nvidia drivers i had on the PC be causing a conflict with the ATI drivers, maybe in the registry or somewhere(note*i have unistalled nvidia drivers from control Panel).

I really would like not to have to do a clean installation.

If anyone knows....plz help me!

PC Specs:
AMD Athlon 1.400
GIGABYTE 7VAXP (Supporting AGP8x DDR400+)
512MB 266DDR Ram
ATI RADEON 9700

Thnx in advance!

Download this . It is a driver cleaner made by spike here on DH. It should remove all old Nvidia files and reg entries. If that doesnt work then you might try to run it and remove all the ati files and then re-install them.

and to answer your question of whether or not nvidia entries in reg or windows or elsewhere could be interfereing with new ATI card.... absolutely! GPU is critical hardware ingredient and IMO, well worthy of its very own clean OS isntall And lostre...... WELCOME!

Tryed nearly everything...
What exactly happens is that when i watch any sort of video (DVD, divx) the picture and sound freezes for a second or two and then continues on. I tested 4 games and 2 of them freezed totally after 3-5 minutes.
The ones that froze where Warcraft III and GTA3(Grand Theft Auto3), the other ones where Quake III and C&C:Generals.

Now I have tryed nearly everything(haven't done format though). I was looking for conficts. They only thing i could see was Sharing of my ISDN Adapter with my Radeon so i disabled it just in case that was the problem, unfortunately it wasn't. I am thinking maybe some other device drivers are bringing this problem.

My PC consists of :

AMD Athlon 1.400
Gigabyte GA-7VAXP
512MB Kingston 266DDR
ATI Radeon 9700 Bulk
SoundBlaster Live! Player
Safeway ISDN PCI adapter

If anyone could help!

sorry, your power supply, (PSU).

the 9700 pro needs a good line feed to keep stable performance.

can you quote your voltages from a program like motherboard monitor 5?

Thnx for all the help guys

Well i upgraded my bios...but still the same. The only difference was that it took a little bit longer to freeze in warcraft.
Then after looking @ rage3d.com forums I saw some issues which would cause the PC to crash. After updating my SB Live! 5.1 drivers I changed AGP 8x to 4x from smartgrap(something like that don't remember exactly:P ) Everything seems to work fine, but one problem still remains...When watching videos it picture and sound freezes occasionaly. I got Catalyst Latest drivers 3.2 . Now i saw iswell that changing the AGP voltage could help iswell but I have never tampered with voltages before.

Voltage in MotherBoard Monitor 5
Core 0 / 1.92 V
Core 1 / 1.22 V
+3.3 / 3.15 V
+5.00 / 4.75 V
+12.0V / 12.91V
-12.0V / -6.88V

Check those driver installation guides. All I did was... Uninstall Nvidia driver... clear registry... Install Radeon, install Catalyst then it works!

Just noticed something here....lol(little bit late:P ) The +12.0V / 12.91V that means I am using more than I have?!?

People I cant stress enough, the most important thing to have in any computer setup is a Raid controller. Raid set to 1 for mirroring (auto backup), this way anytime you need to clean install OS you are already backed up. Raid should already be an industry standard on all Motherboards, its inexpensive and invaluable.

not to go off topic here and completely highjack the thread but... I totally disagree on the RAID thing. To me its just a waste to have double drives. Now raid ran 0 maybe but defintely not 1. Just invest in a simple disk image program and be back to a fresh install from image in about 15 minutes!! anyhow, just my $.02...
