No SMARTGART settings with Limited account
I recently installed the Omega Drivers (v3.8.330) after a complete uninstall of the old ones I had (2.x) because the monitor would go to a blank screen (standby mode) 90% of the time I got to the Windows XP Welcome screen where I choose the account to login.
The install fixed that problem, but now, games are very choppy (as is moving windows around) when I am under a User (Limited) Account. Looking into it, I noticed that I do not have any of the advanced settings under the Display Properties window when I am logged in under a Limited Account. I checked the Advanced SMARTGART Options and everything in "ON". The Administrator Account logins have the same SMARTGART options, yet the advanced settings exist and there is no choppiness. I thought it was because ATI Smart wasn't started, so I tried that (under both account types), but it gives the "started and stopped" message. DirectX draw tests were successful, 3D hardware acceleration is full, starting the game with and without ATI Tray Tools makes no difference, and I couldn't find any thread with the exact same issue. I'm thinking it has something to do with access rights the Limited Account doesn't have, but not sure where to look. Any help is appreciated, thanks! Specs: Asus A7V266-C MB Radeon 9800 Pro AGP 128MB 1 GB RAM Windows XP Pro SP1 DirectX 9.0c |

Greetings!
I've never attempted to log in under a Limited Account, so, I'm not sure what the issue is. Hopefully, someone else has and will be able to give you some help. My question: Why would you want to log in under a limited account instead of a full account? From Microsoft Knowledge Base: "Limited account The limited account is intended for someone who should be prohibited from changing most computer settings and deleting important files. A user with a limited account: •Generally cannot install software or hardware, but can access programs that have already been installed on the computer. •Can change his or her account picture and can also create, change, or delete his or her password. •Cannot change his or her account name or account type. A user with a computer administrator account must make these kinds of changes. •Can manage his or her network passwords, create a reset password disk, and set up his or her account to use a .NET Passport. Note •Some programs might not work properly for users with limited accounts. If so, change the user's account type to computer administrator, either temporarily or permanently. "

Hi Drye, thanks for the response. Limited accounts restrict the level of computer settings that the user can make changes to. I gave my brother a Limited account so that he can use the PC (i.e. internet, word processing, play games, IM) without me worrying of him messing things up.
I believe all drivers do load under a Limited account, since you cannot login as one when Windows enters Safe Mode. The strange thing is on my PC with Radeon X800 Pro PCI-E 256MB, the latest Omega drivers, and Windows XP Home SP2, the Limited account has no video card problems. |
