Performance questions - Change to Cat7.3 or wait for Omega7.3?
Hi guys!
I've got two questions here regarding perfomance of my PowerColor x1950 Pro (265MiB): 1.) Please, don't blame me, I'm just curious: Will there be Omega's based on Cat7.3? I'm thinking for days if it will boost performance to switch from Omega7.1 to Cat7.3 (on winXP) or not, or if it's even better to wait for a Omega7.3 release... I don't want to install Cat7.3 just to try out... Has anyone tried this yet and can give me advice? 2.) (somewhat OT) Which AMD Athlon64 will be best to "deliver" data to my GFXboard? I think my A64 3200+ is not an optimal match for a x1950 Pro and so I'm looking for new hardware. This question isn't that important as I'm currently low on funds and am just thinking about options for the future.Regards, Kringel.

Hi, Kringel,
I was using the CAT 7.3 and then the NGO Optimized 1.7.3 and was having some serious problems. I've since reverted to CAT 7.2. I, too, have a X1950 Pro 256 MB card. I'm presently using a A64 X2 4800+ and couldn't be much happier with how things perform. Also, I've got 2 GB of PC3200 Dual Channel RAM. I think you'd see more improvement with an additional GB of RAM. I know I did. |

Heyho!
I've bought another GiB of Ram on monday and *WOW* this pushed my system more than I ever expected! I can play Gothic3 without cooking coffee at the same time! Loading times in CoH are cut by half, if not more. I'm deeply impressed - for sure.Back to driver updates: What about performance improvements of Cat7.2 against Omega7.1? Are Cat's faster? I know, I know - checking out myself is the only _real_ way to find out. I just want to hear about... tendencies... Greetz, the Kringel.

Cat 7.4s are out now. Might want to give those a shot.

Who said there was going to be an Omega 7.3, why cant people just stop being lazy, visit his website and you'll see that he clearly states no drivers untill Catalyst 7.4.

I am able to read, honey, so take a closer look and you'll find a little word in his statement:

So who is right and who is wrong now? Let's say 50:50, okay, Nick? ![]()

I have always been a big Omega fan, but going from Omega's 7.1 to Cat 7.4 has made gameplay much smoother. Less COD's and better frame rates.
