keyboard and mouse lock up
today my friend gave me his radeon x600 se which he took out of his dell pc to replace my radeon x300.
i remember a while ago i updated the drivers to my x300 and my keyboard and mouse would lock up in the middle of playing a game like CS. So i decided to use my previous drivers and everything was normal again. So i know its not my keyboard or mouse that is the problem. My previous drivers didn't work for this x600se, so i downloaded the latest omega AND regular ATi drivers, and now im experiencing the same problem i had before with both drivers. (no i didn't install both at the same time) How do i fix this? This problem ONLY occurs when i have the latest drivers. the Radeon x600se is specially made for Dell i think. |

Let's start with the basics: Is your PC a desktop or laptop? Are you using Windows XP Pro or Home w/ SP2? Fully Updated? If you uninstall the ATI/Omega drivers and only use the drivers that Windows installs, does the problem still occur? Have you checked for updated BIOS and/or Motherboard Chipset drivers for your system? Will await your reply before proceeding. |

If you uninstall the current video drivers and reboot, Windows prompts that it has found new hardware. Then, it asks for permission to install drivers. If you don't select any particular drivers and let Windows install drivers for the video card, it will install the native VGA drivers. At least that's been my experience since using XP. So, uninstall the current drivers and let Windows redetect the card and install the native VGA drivers. Another thing to consider is to install the latest (April, 2007) DirectX 9 drivers. Good luck and keep us informed on any progress/continued problems. |

What type of kb/mouse are you using? PS/2? USB?
If I were having this problem myself, I'd do a Windows REPAIR installation at this point. This kind of REPAIR installation keeps your programs and files intact but restores Windows to its native state and refreshes the devices and drivers. You will need to do the Windows Updates once again as well as install the motherboard/chipset drivers. If you have a good broadband connection, the entire process might take between an hour - hour and a half. I hope we/you can get this problem fixed without too much more trouble. Good luck! |

Are you using that built-in Infrared Device?
Also, is that VIA OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394 Host Controller an add-in card that you've installed for Firewire connection? Finally, what about this MSI 8624 Video Capture device? Is that also a separate add-in for video capture? I would Disable/Uninstall those three devices (at least temporarily), and see if the problem with the keyboard/mouse is fixed. If it is, install/add in these devices one at time, to see if the problem comes back. If it does, you'll likely know then which device and/or drivers conflict with the keyboard/mouse function. Also, does this X600 come with the dongle for S-Video In and S-Video Out? If it does, like many ATI cards, you should NOT be needing that MSI capture device anyway as you can use the ATI card's video capture. Now, if none of this fixes the problem, download Memtest86 and run the tests for your RAM. Lockups can be caused by memory errors, too. I just don't think it's the memory in this case, but, it's another step to use to isolate the problem device. www.memtest86.com Will be looking to hear back from you soon. Good luck! |

i dont know what the infrared is.
and no i dont have an add-in card for firewire, firewire is in front of my case. and the MSI is my tv tuner. the video card is an OEM so i didnt get the dingle. i will try disabling my devices one by one and see if it fixes, and i will post back. hope it works! |

I'm going to suggest you try another set of video drivers. Go to NGOHQ and download a selection of the NGO ATI Optimized drivers. The version numbers correlate to the ATI official drivers, so, you'll know which version is which without getting confused.
Be sure to uninstall your current drivers using the ADD/REMOVE option from the Windows Control Panel. Here's the link to the NGO drivers: http://www.ngohq.com/home.php?page=F...t&dwn_cat_id=9 Good luck! BTW, if you can find the Windows error -- if one is generated -- it might shed some light on exactly what is getting conflicted. Right click on My Computer, select Manage. Click on the + in front of Event Viewer Then click on the topics and scroll to the timeframe that your lockup happened. See if there are any errors/warnings listed at that timeframe. |

OK...... (sigh).......
Does this lockup happen in all games, only certain ones, or is it even consistent? Does it happen at the beginning of the game/s or after a few minutes or randomly after starting the game/s? Let's try disabling your Windows Firewall (or other Firewall if you're using something other than the Windows Firewall.) What AV (AntiVirus) program are you using and have you done a thorough scan of your system lately? Even though you're quite certain that the problem isn't specific to the keyboard/mouse you're using, can you at least borrow another set and give it a trial? Will be waiting on your update soon. Good luck! |

sorry if this is fustrating you.
the lock ups so far happen in counter-strike 1.6 and counter-strike: condition zero I haven't been playing much games lately. been busy x.x. but i think those are the only two games. it happens randomly when im playing the game. NOD32 is my Antivirus and i've already done scans, nothing detected. Yes i've tried other keyboards and mouses, same problem. I will try disabling my firewall tomorrow and playing and i will post the results |

Don't worry about the frustration factor for my part. I know it's much more frustrating on your end.
I just hope we can get to the bottom of the problem before too long and without too much more trouble. What kind of Internet connection do you have? And, if the Firewall doesn't show up anything, I'm wondering if your NIC card is conflicting with the KB/Mouse. I did have something quite some time ago where my NIC card's activity caused problems. I can't recall exactly what it was I dealt with, but, it was on the same IRQ as another device and, whenever I accessed the Internet or some other activity while online, things would act up. So, I'm wondering if this is something we need to look at. |

Thanks for helping me, most people give up on my problem at this point.
I turned off the firewall and tried playing again and still have the same problem. My internet connection is DSL. it seems like counter-strike and counter-strike: condition zero are the only games with the problem. I tried some mmorpgs and they ran fine. Referring back to my 1st post, when i had the drivers that came in the CD with my radeon x300, those drivers worked perfectly fine, while i still had it, i updated my drivers and started to have the same problem i have now. I'm trying to find older drivers for this card but its kinda hard to find because the radeon x600 SE versions are only sold on dell computers and no drivers cd came with it. |

As for maxing out the settings in your games: Try turning some of that eye candy down and see it anything improves. In all honesty, that X600 isn't going to perform like the newer cards can. That card is a few years old already. I'll see if I can drum up even more X600 SE drivers from somewhere. The older/legacy drivers for X600 can be found here: http://ati.amd.com/support/drivers/x...evious-xp.html
