Game Problem

When I try to run games it pops up with "Failed to find proper screen mode." Is there anyway I can fix this if so how? Thanks.

Well I have narrowed it down there is a problem with my 3d accelerator or directx3d anything about that?

Type DXDIAG in your "run" box and then the "Display" tab. Run the DirectDraw and Direct3D tests and see if you get the same thing.

To me it sounds like you are trying to run resolutions that your monitor doesn't support.

Well I ran the directdraw test but I can not run a direct3d test. Also it says that I do not have any directdraw, 3d, or agp texture accleration. I tried running a different game and it told me to try downloading directx sdk so I am in the process of that now. I will see how that works.


*update* Well I dl'ed the directx sdk and it seems to work but slowly rendering the images. Unfortunatly this is only for one game and the others still dont want to work.

It sounds to me like you "possibly" have not installed the motherboard/chipset drivers for your system. However, before proceeding to take further 'stabs in the dark' we need to have the rundown on your system specs. So far, we don't have an inkling as to what you're working with.

Well I gave up with that and contacted compaq support and got it all fixed up with the official worse drivers. I will have to deal with them because I am not going through this headache again. Took around 7 hours to fix it.

We could probably help you. But, since all we know now is that it's a Compaq still doesn't give us anything to go on. Laptop, Desktop? What else is 'under the hood?'

If you're satisfied with the current status, that's up to you.
