DH Auto ATI Mobility Tool, need beta testers

Patje has joined the Driverheaven modding team and has written a tool to modify drivers to work on most if not all mobility cards. This has several improvements over the other application that was released a while ago on another site. I am not going to go into fine details atm, but im interested in hearing from ATI mobility users who would like to help DH and Patje test this application.

Indeed, thnx Zardon for anouncing!

So i need for every mobility chipset a beta tester who is running Win2K or WinXP.

-Chaos is the first beta tester for the Rage 128 chipset
-PhilAtVizBiz will be the M7 tester (along with me)
-JoGro123 will be the M6 tester
-jcastill will be the M9 tester
-GLinx is another M6 tester, because he's running windows 2003 server.
-LionB will be the IGP tester

I'm currently making final modifications, so it's almost done!

Patje

ps: gigatron, this program turns a catalyst set into a set with mobility support.

Can't wait for the 1st release!

Now this sounds good to me!

I have a M7 - XP combo and it seems you won't be
needing my help so i'll just wait for the 1st public release.

patje, thanx for the quick response .... I used your proggie as directed and at least I could install the drivers without any error messages, but alas the results were the same

It seems as though the problem I have is with the miniport driver itself,it just doesn't work on this machine.....

BUT !! ... thanx for your hard work and keep it up,without guys like u the rest of us will be TOTALLY lost !

Will keep u posted ....

patje,

I get the initial W2K startup screen, but then it goes blank,no cursor,no disk activity or reaction to the keyboard, have to switch the machine off to reset ...

The ATI drivers detects an IGP 340,Omega's set says IGP 340/345,but the result is the same (with very vague promises from HP/Compaq that they MIGHT look into the problem) ...... and I've got 4 machines to set up ....

Thanx for your interest, appreciate it ....

LionB, do you have a working (older) driver for win2k ?
i'd like to check that one out.

If not, try this:

open the C:\ATI\support\wxp-w2k-radeon-7-84-030228a1-008040c-efg\2KXP_INF\CX_08040.inf with notepad

goto the bottom of the file and look for the following section : [ati2mtag_RS200M_SoftwareDeviceSettings]

in that section look for the following:

HKR,, ExtEvent_EnablePowerPlay, %REG_DWORD%, 0 --> change the zero to a one
HKR,, DALRULE_GETLCDFAKEEDID, %REG_DWORD%, 1 --> change the one to a zero

save the file and try reinstalling them.

not sure if it will help, but you never know right?

patje,

Unfortunately no older driver as HP only supply these machines with XP (they say this is a consumer PC,not a business one ???)
I tried the previous model's driver (IGP 340) but that just fails to install..

I'm definitely going to try your fix,we've got a long weekend here, will let u know the results on Tuesday (22/04)

Thanx again for your help !!

Default Post

patje,

It was worth a try ... It appears the Inspiron 5100 definately needs a BIOS mod to support Win2K with the ATI M7. I tried your mods on Catalyst 3.0, 3.1 & 3.2 as well as a host of other driver sets and always the same result. From their own forums, it appears Dell is getting a whole bunch of cancelled orders and returned machines because of this problem. From other postings here it sounds like HP might be doing the same thing with "consumer" vs "business". I was about to order a Compaq so I'd better check further first.

Keep up the good work !
