Drivers Not Recognizing My Card

Hello,

I just bought this new X1900XT from Newegg.com (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102067) and I was trying to install drivers for it, but both Omega and DNA won't recognize it. Is it because it is a Sapphire? Here are the Hardware are IDs, maybe someone can check to see if they are not supported by thos INFs?

Primary: PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_7244&SUBSYS_0B121002&REV_00\4&1A6 46D2D&0&0008
Secondary: PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_7264&SUBSYS_0B131002&REV_00\4&1A6 46D2D&0&0108

Thanks!

This is the most likely culprit. Not that it's Sapphire, but that the HW ID has not been included in the installer for those particular drivers. It's best to report this information to those who are modding the drivers to make sure it gets included in the next release.

The following IDs from the Cat 7.6 driver INF are sufficient to have the graphics driver install.

"Radeon X1950 Series " = ati2mtag_R580, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_7244
~
"Radeon X1950 Series Secondary " = ati2mtag_R580, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_7264

Although we would like to have a complete set of IDs like shown for your card we don't always know what the manufacturer is actually using for IDs. So we put in the generic IDs like I have shown to ensure the driver will install. Almost invariably you will get an "INF error" when the IDs are not found. But keep in mind that the ATI installer first inerogates the system to find out what hardware there is and then launches into the actual installation.

There are a few items that may get an INF error. Obviously everyone focuses on the graphics driver. In your case the Cat 7.6 graphics driver should install. I don't know about Omega or DNA. Commonly missing is the WDM capture driver and this may trigger an install error. Even if the graphics seems to be running fine. Many do not use capture so don't notice any missing functionality however they may go to great lengths to figure out the error message.
Possible (missing) drivers to consider that may be causing the ATI installer some grief.
WDM (Capture)
HDMI Audio
Motherboard CHIPSET. (ATI with or without integrated graphics)

In any case to check any driver to see if it includes IDs for a specific card, look for exact matches to your IDs or entries similar to mine above. (Without the extra stuff shown in your ID listing) The installer will use an exact match ID first and fall back to a generic match before indicating a problem.

If you can post specific errors or something that shows how the card is not being recognized along with some other system details, it would be helpful.

Thanks

CC

Thanks for the information. I am using the official Cat 7.6's right now and they are working just fine. This may be a little off-topic, but I haven't been able to find a solution to this problem, so maybe you can help. I can't get the WDM drivers to install properly. The device shows up in the device manger, but it has a yellow exclamation mark next to it. When I go to the device properties it has this message: "Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)."

What method did you choose to install the official CATs?

Also, if your video card is made by a third party, it may be that they did not include the video capture capability. Some of them don't as I have an ASUS x550 in a second machine that does not have it.

So, be sure you do have the video capture ability before we proceed.

How do I check if it has video capture capabilites? I know that it needs the WDM drivers though because it always detects the device even if I unisntall it. I used the display driver only installer off the ATI website to install Cat v7.6 (I don't like CCC. I'm using ATI Tray Tools, but I had this problem before I installed it.).

If your system is detecting the ATI T200 Unified AVStream Driver, then, yes, you do need the WDM drivers and you do have video capture ability on that card.

Since you're wanting to use Omegadrivers, it's a matter of either Omega adding support for your card into the installer, OR, you would need to edit the CX_48640.inf file to include it yourself. You'll find the file in the following location on your system ... if you used the default installation procedure:

C:\ATI\SUPPORT\7-6_xp_dd_ccc_wdm_enu_48640\Driver\Driver\XP_INF

I installed the WDM drivers with an installer off the ATI website and that is when I encountered this problem. for some reason they do not install properly.

Try installing the WDM drivers from within Windows Safemode to see it that works. If not.....

Then go to Device Manager and select to Update the drivers for the device. Just be sure you know where the WDM drivers were extracted. Usually, it's to the C:\ATI\Support\ directory.

Good luck!
