Video issues with Catalyst 7.6 on Mobility Radeon X1700

Hi,

I have recently upgraded to Catalyst 7.6 mobility on my Asus F3JP notebook. I had to get the drivers directly from the ATI website as Asus haven't released recent drivers for the mobility X1700. Note that I didn't need the mobility modder, as I got the mobility drivers off the ATI website itself. After successfully updating the drivers and CCC, I have a couple of issues with video:

1. When I enable hardware acceleration for windos media (WMA), the WMA files play with colours inverted, and the sound occasionally skips. With hardware acceleration off, there are no problems.

2. I am unable to preview the fluttering ATI flag on the various AVIVO settings pages. I was able to do this fine with the old version of catalyst I was running (i.e. pre-7.0). Now all I get is a still image of the flag, making me wonder whether the new drivers have screwed up video playback somehow.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi, diablo007

1. As far as I know this is "normal". Just leave the WMV acceleration disabled.

I don't know about the 2. as I don't use CCC.

Greetings and welcome to DriverHeaven!

Let's take number 2 first: The flag no longer animates in the newer versions of CCC. So, nothing to be concerned about with that.

As for number 1: Reducing HW Acceleration is the remedy if there's corruption in the video files. But, stay tuned for anyone who may have a better option to consider.

Hi there and welcome to DriverHeaven.

The flag is ok since in the 7.XX series of drivers all have it. And if I recall correctly it was discussed here at some point earlier...
about those WMV files it looks like driver issue, I've looked ATi's site and found that Asus is not on the supported laptop manufacturers list. So that makes me wonder how you managed to install the mobility drivers. Anyway if it works fine when WMV acceleration disabled that would look like there is some work for ATi's diver makers to fix that bug.

[EDIT] Well you got a few replies here

Thanks for all the help everyone (and the warm welcome!). Dyre Straits: I thought that might be the case with the flag thing, just wanted to make sure that it wasn't a bug. Temeteus, I managed to get the mobility catalyst drivers directly from the following link: http://ati.amd.com/online/mobilecatalyst/. This bypasses the need to run their compatibility checking tool (which wouldn't let me download the drivers). Anyway, the WMV playback thing seems to be the only issue I have come across so far. The drivers installed without a hitch.

well, you might want to try the mobility modder to see if it makes a difference ...
