HD2900XT 1GB GDDR4 and Catalyst

I heard from a few sources that the current Catalyst drivers do not officially support the 1GB version, therefore there is no addressing written into the drivers for over 512mb of memory, so the extra 512mb is just kinda useless?

cadaveca did a test with DiRT I guess and set max settings and received the same out of videoram error with both a 512mb card and the 1GB version, does anyone have any input on this? I know cadaveca visits here too so maybe he can further explain the problems he ran into

And possibly if CATALYSTMaker could shed some light on this, and if support will be added if it already isnt there.

Wouldnt need new drivers just to support extra ram so that would be false as far as im concerned. Can check the video ram useage with ATI Tray Tool load oblivion and a few high res texture pack mods and the graphics will use way over 512mb ram.

So then what's the deal with DiRT?

And are we sure that ATI Tray Tool is reporting correctly?

Have you tried DX SDK to verify that it reported the same?

What about in Crossfire mode...does the same apply, or is it different?

Could be a bug with DiRT honestly, it might be a bug with catalyst itself, and not the extra memory on the card.

If you already had dirt installed and you went from a 512meg to a 1 gig it's possible that Dirt hasn't updated your profile info.
Dirt is a funny acting game to say the least. Although I cannot guarantee this will work but it's worth a shot:
-create another profile
-reinstall Dirt
to see if there are any changes to how it uses your video card. Dirt does take a profile of your current setup and saves it. I don't think it changes either. But do this to find out:
-find your hardware settings folder (it's located based on how you installed the game). Do a search for "hardware settings" to locate it.
-take a look at the file hardware_settings_info.xml there you will find some information about your video card: If it looks exactly the same then nothing has changed.

I think a lot of this has to do with that "protect.exe" program that start up each time you click on dirt. I am not sure if a new profile or uninstall re-install will recognize your new hardware.

Side note:
Set your ram to 1:1 in your bios. I found that by doing so allows for a slightly better performance from your video card.
