Catch 22 with Omega drivers / Official drivers
Hi.
I have the following problem with the latest Omega's (based on Catalyst 7.4) and my Radeon X1650 Pro. I'm not able to select a resolution of 1920x1080/50Hz (only 60 Hz is offered). This is the only resolution with gives me a pixelperfect display on my panasonic 50PZ700E without overscan. I checked this also with the official Catalyst 7.7 which offers this option and gets me 1 to 1 pixel mapping for my display. I'm using the omegas for many years now and want to do so in the future but I don't know how to get this working. A serious bug in the official 7.5/7.6/7.7 also prevents me from using the official drivers. When using them with MediaPortal they cause a 100% CPU load even if Mediaportal is idle. The Omega do not have this problem where CPU load is only at 1% in the same situation. Maybe it is a tweak in the Omegas which could be proted to the latest Catalyst but I have abslutely no idea where to look for it. If anyone has some useful hints for helping me to get out of that catch 22 situation I would be really happy. Thanks, goppi. |

Greetings and welcome to DriverHeaven!
There have been many others report problems with X1650 Pro video cards and trying to use Omegadrivers. It seems that these cards [at present] are not fully supported by the Omegadrivers. So, be patient and we can hope that this problem can be remedied in the next release of the Omegadrivers. However, in the meantime, I highly recommend using the latest NGO Optimized Drivers for ATI cards: www.ngohq.com Click on the Files option at the top of the page and follow the links. This site also hosts the Omegadrivers and others. Good luck! |

Thanks for that suggestion. I will give it a try. I have to say that the 1080/50p issue is the only one I'm having with the omegas, whereas the official ones are a nogo for me due to the 100% CPU problem with MediaPortal. It will be interresting to see if the next release of the Omegas will also introduce that problem. I was able to fix the 1080/50p problem with PowerStrip.

Hey Dyre Straits,
trying the NGOs was a really good hint. This driver (based on Catalyst 7.3) does not have the 100% CPU load bug with mediaportal and it also supports 1080/50p leading to pixelperfect display. All problems sovled. Thanks a lot. Hopefully the bug with mediportal found in the latest official Catalyst releases will not beeing ported into NGO or Omega when they release new drivers based on the latest Catalyst versions. goppi. |
