I just built my system I have series of consistant problems with many games. So far, I don't have any stability issues with this machine.
Half Life and CS - When I play counter-strike(open-GL 1024*768) and Half-life(D3D 1024*768), everything runs fine, except when I leave the game with (esc) key and try to save or resume the game or join another one, one out of three times the game goes back on the desktop with a black rectangle on the upper left corner of a size of 640*480, my desktop is at 1024*768 i have to quit the game using "ctrl-alt-del". Everything on my PC is up to date. What might cause this problem?????????? Sacrifice - I install the game from CD first and it runs OK. But, when I intall the latest patch(3rd patch) the texts(letters) in the menus are gone. They are just disappeared and I can't read any thing on the menu buttons. Flanker 2.5 - I installed it from the CD. And the again texts in the menu is blurry and I see couple of lines that are supposed to be one line shaping these letters. Samething with in game messages. Freespace 2 - All the text and letters are blurry in any resolution. Before, when I had sloer machines it was not like this at all so I know it's different now(worse). It's in D3D mode. Homeworld - I can't run it in OpenGL mode regardless or resolution or 32 bit or 16 bit. Am I doing something wrong with the setting? I did not tweak or anything after I installed the driver. Does anyone know what to do with these kind of consistent problems? Help me guys, plz. If not, I hope next realease of the driver deals with all these issues as well as any other related problems. I know Omega and Cyborg are really doing great work but, frankly, I am not very happy with this driver. here is my rig: -AMD XP 1800 with Arkua 7228 HSF -Abit NV7-133RK -512 meg, 2 x 256 Xtreme DDR(single-sided) -ATI radeon 8500LE (bulk) (Omega Plutonium XK 1. 0. 71b) -Maxtor 60gig ATA133 -Pioneer DVD S106(slot loadong) -Win XP pro -counter-strike (Mod version) -nothing overclocked -Antec 1035B case (with Antec350W PSU) |

i had the same sort of issues a couple years ago...turns out i had a power supply issue that fubared my mobo. i'm not familiar with the nvidia chipset on yours, but i think i remember hearing something about that abit board requiring some special powersupply connectors. i'm probably way off base with that one, but it never hurts to check.
of course, you should recheck all your jumpers and switches on the mobo, set your bios features to default settings at first, and install all latest drivers and controllers...good luck.

The main issue is how much power the Athlon XP needs, although the power needed for the nforce is not trivial either. The 350w Antec "should" be ok for your rig, but my suggestion is to get the Enermax 431 psu. It'll cost you less than $100 us and should take care of the freeze-ups. Anyway, that was my experience when I went to the Athlon XP 1600 on a KR7A-RAID.
![]() Oh, quick edit. The ATX power connection is all that you should need for the board. It's the Pentium 4's that need special hookups.

My MB, NV7-133R, needs the 12V conncetion from PSU like those Pentium4 boards need it.
I know and I have it all right in my rig. These problems does not look like power related I think and someone tell me how to distingush. It's very consistant. Some says the new leaked driver(6093) is more stable so I installed it over the 1. 0. 71b driver last night. It looks brighter in overall, in CS especially(Looked sharper too). Problem with 'Sacrifice' turned out to be from bad patch file. However, I have another problem with right patch file installed. In the game and even in menu screen, it stutters. Of course, I had all the setting at maximum thinking that my rig has got enough power to run it smoothly. Has it not? Even then, I changed the setting to medium quality overall and no difference. Still stutters. And last night, I was playing Battlezone 2 at again maximum setting and it locked up in the middle of the play. I played it for about 2 hrs then it locked up and Ctrl-Alt-Del did not do squat!!! I had high hope for my 8500 but it's very frustrating. Some says those old school games will have problems with new card and OS. Do I have to play only recent games?..... What's the point in frequent driver update when it does not deliver? What is the difference between the days of poor driver support from ATI and nowadays with frequent driver release when it comes down to actual functionality? Disappointing..... -AMD XP 1800 with Arkua 7228 HSF -Abit NV7-133RK -512 meg, 2 x 256 Xtreme DDR(single-sided) -ATI radeon 8500LE (bulk) (Omega Plutonium XK 1. 0. 71b) -Maxtor 60gig ATA133 -Pioneer DVD S106(slot loadong) -Win XP pro -counter-strike (Mod version) -nothing overclocked -Antec 1035B case (with Antec350W PSU) |
