System Specs

IL2 1946 & dual monitors

I'm having a strange problem with the 7.6 and 7.7 Cats, and IL2. I can't say if it was the same with the 7.5 Cats, as I never installed them.

I have been running the game at 1600x1200x32 in OGL mode with the 7.4 and previous Cats with no problem.

Starting with 7.6 I ran into something strange, and I'm not sure if it's just my system, or if it's the same for everyone.

If I try to start the game in 1600x1200 OGL, I only get a partial screen on my primary monitor, and the rest of the screen shows the desktop. Just so you know, I got out my tape measure, and the screen is 16" wide (21" Hitachi CM-813), and I get 5.75" of game (on the right side of the monitor), and the other 10.25" is desktop

Now, if I disable the 2nd monitor, the game loads and runs just fine at 1600x1200 OGL. This happens in both XP Pro SP2, and XP Pro x64. Just to make sure that it wasn't cause by 'leftover' drivers, I did a clean install of x64, and the same thing happens, so it's definately something in the last couple of driver versions.

I'll note that if I run the game in DirectX mode I have no problems, but there are game related reasons why I wish to run it it in OGL mode.

All of my system specs are at the left, and additional info is in my sig. I have all current driver updates.

Anyone here have any ideas?

Driver bug, use D3D for the game for now or earlier drivers.

Wink

IL2 is developed with OpenGL, why change to play it in D3D?
Try to reset your video setting in IL2 Option and use 7.4

System Specs

Back when I was using a 9500 Pro, ATI cards would get better FPS in IL2 in DirectX mode. That was before ATI improved their OGL drivers, so there was a good reason to use DirectX. With the later drivers I did go to OGL.

I switched to DirectX for testing only, just to see if the corruption was happening there too. When you are trouble shooting you try all the options that you can think of so as to pinpoint the problem. I could have easily just tried the OGL, saw the problem and then screamed "OMFG ATI drivers suck, ect, etc, etc". However I chose to investigate further and provide as much info as I could so that ATI can better get a handle on where and what the problem is.

I'll note that the same corruption happens for ANY resolution higher than 1024x768 (Il2's native res).

I did restore my 7.4 driver version so all is well for the time being. That's the advantage of HyperOS. I can backup/restore/clone systems with a few mouse clicks, and be back in business with a 'good' operating system in just a few minutes.

Dang, problem still exists in the 7.8s

Back to the 7.4s once again.

7.10s and still not fixed

I take it 'soon' is a subjective time frame??

it's not just IL2...

at the risk of saying "me too" the problem seems to extend (pardon the pun) to ALL OGL apps running dual monitor at a res of 1024 or greater. Now here's a REALLY spooky thing, I can tell you right now that your primary monitor is on the right... right?

swap your primary monitor to the left screen, i.e. instead of seeing 2 --- 1 change it to 1 --- 2.

SHock! Your monitors are working now! After experimenting further, you can have your secondary anywhere in the right area, even at NE or SE.. but as soon as it crosses back over to the left, the effect comes back. And there was me thinking I was the only one!

If it was being worked on you would think by now it was fixed... wouldn't you? EDIT: Submitting to Cat Crew Feedback right now.

Regards
Dave
