1280x800? Catalyst 7.1

I recently got myself a 22" widescreen LCD monitor with a 16:10 aspect ratio. According to different charts, 1280x800 is the correct 16:10 resolution. However, Windows XP, as well as some games that are suppose to support 1280x800, does not display that resolution as an option. I also went to the advanced display settings and clicked list all modes, but it did not list 1280x800 either. I also "uninstalled" my plug and play monitor from the device manager and restarted Windows.

#1: Is 1280x800 suppose to be available as a standard resolution?
#2: Should I even bother with getting it, or just stick with 1280x768?

Greetings and welcome to DriverHeaven!

First, is there any particular reason you're using the older 7.1 Catalyst drivers?

As I'm using a 21" CRT monitor, and the Catalyst 7.4 (only due to some testing) I'm able to select 1280x800 with no trouble at all. It is listed in the standard resolutions.

You don't say which video card you're using. Nor is there any other information about your particular system. It would be very helpful to list the system specifications to keep us from taking stabs in the dark on this.

Sorry, I had to re-type my post and I forgot to list my specs the second time. Also, I justed updated my drivers and CCC to 7.7 and I still have the same problem, and seem to have lost a few FPS in CS:S.

ATI Radeon 9800XT 256mb AGP
AMD Athlon 64 3400+
Westinghouse 22" LCD WS 16:10 using DVI-D
Windows XP SP2

Just wanted to update everyone. I installed Powerstrip and added 1280x800 as a standard resolution. When I restarted Windows, I had 1280x800 as an option in both Windows XP as well as in all my games that support it. I restarted Windows in safe mode and uninstalled Powerstrip. I now have 1280x800 available in all my games and I don't have to keep Powerstrip installed. I don't quite understand why it was not available to begin with, but I have official closed this case and filed it under "Windows X-Files."

Just had to give the guy in the computer a little kick in the head to make him remember, huh?

Glad to know it's resolved....however it was done.
