X1950 Pro AGP support on 7.9?

Have ATi finally got this problem sorted because I can't seem to find it in the "Issues Solved" section

Lazy arses. I ain't gonna uninstall my 7.6's to find out those noobs still haven't fixed a HUGE issue.

OMG I JUST SPOTTED IT !! Those noobs still haven't fixed the bloody issue. Grrr !!

" Caution: Installing the Catalyst software suite 7.8 or 7.9 on a system containing the ATI Radeon™ X1950 AGP series of product may result in either the desktop failing to be drawn properly or the operating system failing to boot. It is recommended to continue using Catalyst 7.7 for this product at this time."

Idiot's, Catalyst 7.7 doesn't work for me or for the technical support team at HIS Graphics (Yes I managed to get in contact with them).

I'm using them with X1950 GT AGP and everything is fine so far.

Have you checked to see your AGP texture acceleration is Fully ON? Last time i got the 7.8's to work for about 30 minutes and then all hell broke out

I checked the dxdiag and Smartgart settings - everything is enabled, played Far Cry for a while and no problem.

Lucky, maybe because the GT chip is slightly different but i'm not going to risk it.

The GT has exactly the same GPU as the Pro, the only difference is lower frequency (500 vs. 575).

hmm, I still think ati are a bunch of noobs, their 3rd driver release without any support for the X1950 AGP series. Yes 7.7 doesn't work...for me anyways.

exclamation

Yup, with 7.8 no AGP texture acceleration. With 7.9 no anything including reboot. I can run 1280 x 1024 on Bioshock with 30FPS with 7.7. Pisses me off though because I am missing out on the optimizations. I want a hot fix for my sapphire 1950 Pro AGP on my AN7 NF2. Your call (business decision) AMD...

I have the HIS X1950 Pro AGP 512 MB and had similar issues.
Cat 7.8 failed to draw the desktop properly on the first reboot, but on the second reboot it worked fine and has worked ever since.
Cat 7.9, can't even reboot after installing . . . have to boot into safe mode and uninstall drivers and go back to 7.8.

That's really quite drastic just on account of drivers. If the 7.7s are working, why are newer drivers so urgent?

Becasuse of missing Bioshock and ETQW optimizations... It's like driving a sports car on regular unleaded fuel. You still get from point A to point B with the aformentioned gas, but the experience and performance are not what you would have versus having premium fuel.

Im glad that im not the only one, there are having problems with the new catalyst 7,9.
i get a blue screen after the first reboot.
and i allso dont have any AGP acc. under catalyst 7,8 so im allso back on 7,7.

Im having a saphire card, but does ATI know this, and just dont care about us AGP users or?

They know about the AGP problems. Read the release notes.

Here's the quote from ATI/AMD:

It's probably not just because of the drivers but my PC has very poor performance right now. I think it's the VIA chipset that my ASUS mobo uses.

Wow, I just bought a Sapphire radeon x1950pro 512MB AGP, and ran into this problem when installing cats. 7.9. So, Now I'm using the default ones that came in the CD (7.6). Should I install 7.7 in the mean time? is it worth it? Also, I played the first minutes of HL2: Lost Coast, and performance wasn't as good as I expected, I would say less than 40 FPS. Why is this? My rig in a nutshell: Sempron @1800 MHz, 1 GB RAM@400.

glad i don't update drivers as much anymore. i'm still running on the 7.3s lol. although, i do have the 7.6s already downloaded for any such event.

i'm actually surprised that there are this many of us using the AGP flavor of the card .
