The best driver for stalker on x1950PRO ?

Can someone tell me what is the best driver for stalker on Asus x1950PRO 256mb PCI-E ?
I have played the game on PowerColor x1800GTO 256MB PCI-E and it worked great but since i got this card i cant play it for 30 minutes without it freezeing and i have to restart or task it and wait 15 minutes to see the desktop.

Every other game works great but stalker freezes all the time and its unplayable like this.

Thx.

I seem to recall that there was an initial problem with some of the ASUS cards not having the heatsinks installed properly. This was allowing the card to overheat....which is what it sounds like yours is doing.

Are you monitoring the temperatures on your card?

Also, which drivers are you presently using?

No its not overheating. It gets up to 80C max under load and as i was told by Asus customer service everything under a 100C is normal.

i have searched on google and found a number of topics with people owning a x1950pro complaining about freezes in stalker.

Im using cat 7.6 i have tried 7.4 cat 7.4 omega 7.5 7.6 im going to reformat tomorow and try 7.9 but i dont think it will help

Same advice I give everyone, if your running XP, then install the 6.10 set they run perfect on everything, the 7.xx are where the bugs are at and best ignored unless you have Vista then you have no choice but to become a ATI beta tester.

Yes, I've read and even quoted those temp figures in the past. However, from real experience, I find that if my own card gets up to 80C and stays there for long, I can have some problems. I don't like to see my own X1950 Pro getting over 74C during the heaviest of activity.

Try this: Take the side cover off, point a small desk fan right at the video card and try to keep the temp under 70C and see if the same thing happens. It's the only way to absolutely determine if this is heat-related or not.

Good luck!

I just now read what you have posted and didnt try it since i found a solution. The thing is really very simple. Stalker instalation shows that if your page file is 1700mb its fine (green) but it isnt i incresed my page file to 1950 (lol) and it works great. To think that i have installed the drivers about 10 times over when it isnt driver related i feel like a dumbass.

BTW my card doesent even hit 70C(68 the most) in stalker with everything set to max 6xAA 16xAF +HQ AF and all setting in ATT set to quality at 1024x768 and all ingame settings set to max. The 80C i got at 1600x1200 (all maxed i think it was stalker or maybe some other game nvm) that was when i was really trying to stress the card and the fan is on stock 19%(1530 Rpm).

I installed the new ATT and finaly have the ability to controll the GPU fan speed
Untill now the fan was always on 19% i could see the speed but not controll it and now i can Man this card is relly quiet even with fan set to 100% it goes at 3500 Rpm and i cant hear the diference unlike the x1800GTO that was loud as hell.
Maybe the solution to my problem wasnt really related to the page file but to ATT .. hm.. i wonder.
Anyhow everything works fine now just one question for Dyre : What is the fan speed (Rpm) when you set it to 100% on your card ?

Thx guys and a special thank you to Dyre Staits

Oops i edited the post while you were posting
I cant say for sure that it was page file since i installed ATT before editing the page file but i dont think it has anything to do with ATT.

I wouldn't expect ATT to increase performance on its own, either. I'd go with the Pagefile.

EDIT: As for the speed of the fan, I can't find a sensor reading for that. ATT doesn't detect the speed, either.

Thx again Dyre Straits

Edit : Just to let you guys know iv been playing it all day and gave my brother a go with it while i was out and no crashes/freezes everything works great.
Also now that with ATT 1.3.6.1056 i can control the fan my temp doesent go over 62 (it barely touches 62) on the same settings that it was geting to 68 without fan control.
If there is any development in my situation ill let you guys know.

Over and out
