1680 X 1050 wxga dvi help
I recently bought a 20 inch wide screen monitor. I quickly realized that my onboard graphics would not handle 1680 X 1050. I want to be able to hook it up via DVI. I bought a radeon x1050 and am using the latest omega drivers however the monitor will not display above 1280 X 1024. That is I can set it to 1680 X 1050 in display manager however the text is slighty blurry and when I check the monitors actual resolution it still shows 1280 X 1024. I should also note that I don't play games much, I just want a clear flat screen monitor with crisp text. So my question is this. Is there any way to get my radeon x1050 card to run my 1680 X 1050 lcd monitor in dvi mode? If this is not possible, I can still return the card and get something else. Any suggestions or help would be appreciated.
Thanks, Smoky |

I have read a few posts elsewhere that state the ATI Radeon 9600 Pro works with 1680 X 1050 lcd monitors via DVI. Can anyone confirm this? If so why can this card, which costs half as much as the x1050, do it and the other not. What is the difference?

I think I can get it to work with the analog plug but what is the point of going from digital to analog and then back to digital?

I can't think of ANY reason why you wouldn't be able to use the 1680x1050 resolution... aside from possibly a glitch with omega drivers....
I know for a fact that the x1050 will provide a DVI connection up to at least 1920x1200.. Have you tried official drivers?

Also, be sure to include all Plug N Play monitors ... Reboot the system and let Windows redetect the current monitor. That might resolve the issue. I've also had some issues with resolutions in past Omegadrivers on my CRT monitors. Some times this is due to having a TV Out cable connected to a TV. In those cases, the system would default to restricting the Monitor resolution to the maximum capable TV Resolution. You can uncheck the Use DDC option to allow for higher resolutions. Good luck! |

yes i have tried the official drivers.
All display adapters are removed except for the x1050 primary and secondary. I wonder if the old on board graphics in causing a conflict. I made certain that my pci express card was the default in my bios but perhaps I need to disable the onboard graphics somehow. On a side note I noticed the omega driver showed my graphic card as xpress 200 (onboard graphics) instead of the x1050. The official drivers correctly showed the x1050, however I don't think this is a issue as both drivers give me the same results when experimenting. |

The ATi Catalyst drivers should have zero problem determining and installing the correct drivers for each device....
But theres definitely something odd going on

When if find new hardware.. DON'T allow windows to install any driver for VGA capatible... Just cancel it..
then install the newest drivers freshly..... you should then be able to use the CCC from ATI to FORCE a 1680x1050 resolution

1680x1050 resolution isn't listed in CCC. The only way I can force it is to change it in display properties. But the monitor itself stays at 1280 X 1024. I am able to control the monitors resolution at lower settings via CCC. Also, in the Monitor properties/attributes section of CCC it states the maximum reported resolution for my lcd monitor is 1600 X 1200 which is different then the actual native resolution of 1680 X 1050. In other words, the correct maximum resolution isn't being reported to CCC .

I installed the omega drivers again and can now get 1680 X 1050 analog working. So my monitors resolution is the same as the display setting. It looks pretty good...however when I try to change from analog to digital by plugging in my dvi cable it goes back to 1280 X 1024 and won't change back. I think I'm getting closer to the solution.

Who is the manufacturer of your LCD and what model you have?
I have found some rare cases where an LCD has a higher resolution using the analog connection and on DVI it defaults to a lower one, it has to do with the chip controller in the LCD and not the video card, ATI drivers or mine should properly detect the correct resolution for any connection type and adjust accordingly. |

It is a 20" Wide StarLogic LCD Monitor.
This person in this thread seems to be having the same problems with his starlogic monitor. Should I try the powerstrip program or could it be something more simple? EnTech Taiwan :: View topic - 1680x1050 on Starlogic LCD monitor |

Hmm, all the searches I did on that monitor are either bids or Chinese sites and none can give me the manufacturer's home page.
Seeing the thread at EnTech I see that the problem may be the monitor is not fully P&P and is not reporting the full resolutions when using the DVI port. What I would suggest is install Powerstrip and create a Monitor INF that supports 1680x1050@60, then force that driver over the P&P one for the monitor. |

Yeah did a search here..... Not sure if i got the right result though... but a toshiba LCD screen itself.. but the other components are basically jobber...... basically an exceptionally cheap screen..
I'm with omega on this... if analog is producing the correct results.. it's quite likely the DVI portion of it is pretty much junk (basically providing an alternative connection that really doesn't make sense to bother useing as it only runs at that resolution)

I installed powerstrip and set a custom resolution but it didn't work. I checked monitor information and it states a max resolution fo 1600 X 1200. When you say create a monitor inf , can this be done via powerstrip or do I manully edit monitor.inf with notepad. I think I'm getting in a bit over my head. The model ID is TPE07D6 by the way.

Ok I give up on this monitor. I refuse to waste any more time trying to get the monitor to perform as it was advertised to perform. It baffles my mind that a company that sells a 1680x1050 dvi monitor will only work as a 1680x1050 analog monitor. I’m going to send it back to officemax and get a better one. Thanks for trying to help.

Sorry that we couldn't further assist you...
It does look like a fairly CHEAP monitor... or that of a faulty one perhaps.. Typically i stick with name brand monitors... such as dell's higher end models... ACER.... Samsung..... etc... And it helps to do a thorough search on a monitor before buying it and getting a good number of reports/reviews to see how it is.... That way you can determine before you buy it if it's reliable and good quality.
