I wonder if I should try them at all. Even though my 3DMark score is lower with 7.9 than with 7.8 I can definately see that the OpenGL performance has increased a LOT between 7.8 and 7.9. I'm so extremely happy with that since my major game is OGL. Hopefully it's just as good or better with 7.10 but I'll wait a while to test anyway.

Wize,
I checked what you suggested. AGP Read&Write, PCI Read&Write and Fast Writes all enabled, Direct3D tests failed. Maybe this card and or AGP slot is no longer supported?
Bummer I feel your pain .Only other thing I have found with my 850 agp is that I have had to use driver cleaner pro in safe mod to remove previous driver and sometimes reinstall drivers 2 times.1 time driver go in and not the CCC .Anyone here run a 2600 xt ?If so how are ya liking it?

PowerColor X1950 Pro AGP Not Working!!!!

Heya All,
I just wanted to post my 2 cents worth. I have a PowerColor X1950 Pro AGP 256 mb version running Windows XP on a ABiT AV8 motherboard and these 7.10 are still not working. I uninstalled the old drivers, rebooted into safe mode, ran both DriverSweeper and DriverCleaner Pro, rebooted into windows and tried the new drivers 3 times. Of those 3 times, 2 of the reboots resulted in no video after windows booted back up. I could hear the sounds of my os running and shutting down once I hit the power button just fine so I know my pc had booted up. The 3rd time, my motherboard actually gave me a no video card detected warning after the reboot from the driver install. I had to power off the pc and boot back into safe mode to get rid of the driver.

I bought my 1950 pro agp card less than 3 months ago, and it is sad that AMD/ATI has fallen to the point that they have. There hasn't been a stable Catalyst driver release that works on my machine since I bought this video card. I have reimaged my pc numerous times, installed every set of drivers from 6.8 to 7.10 and none of them have been stable. I used to be a die hard Nividia fanboi for the longest time until ATI started proving themselves with their card designs and abilities, but since their AMD merger, they are quickly becoming a laughingstock in my eyes. Unless they do something soon about their driver support, I am going to be going back to Nvidia for my next card and never look back. If you aren't going to support older technologies like agp and xp, then you should man up and state it, not leave your users fighting their pc's to find a stable driver.

I went back to using the Omega 7.4 Radeon drivers for the time being as those have been rock solid every time I install them with no issues whatsoever. Yes, I know I lose some fps due to the older drivers, but at some point, you start to realize that having a stable video system is far more important than the performance gains of questionable drivers.

Oh, and just as a side note, I ran down to Best Buy and bought a Nvidia Geforce 7600 to test on my machine to see if it was a system problem. I installed the card, did a fresh install of XP, all the updates, and installed the latest Nvidia drivers and had absolutely no problems with blue screens, no games crashing, no loss of video on reboots, no corrupted desktop video on reboot, and no system hangs on reboot. I was sorely tempted to just leave the card in my machine, but I couldn't justify spending the $180 bucks on another agp card when my X1950 pro is less than 3 months old.

There, my rant is over.

Ok, tried 7.10 anyway and it seems to be great so far. Improved a bit on performance in DX relative to 7.9 and seems to be on pair with 7.9 in OGL.

I read a lot about people with AGP having problems but for me I haven't had any troubles at all with my AGP card. Not with any driver.

???

Same problems with my 1950 AGP Pro as the 7.7-7.9s. D3D failed all of the tests in dxdiag. This is really frustrating because all of the optimizations I am missing out on having to stick with the 7.6s and the new games.

I noticed the warning for the 1950 AGP Pro is gone, with the 7.10s, in the release notes, but nothing has been fixed. Why? Does ATI intend on doing anything about this?

Maybe a separate driver release for AGP owners? I actually shelled out $260 for this card, confident ATI was going to support it for a reasonable amount of time. It hasn't even been a year.

CATALYST MAKER, will you comment on this please?

Edit: I noticed the majority of the voters gave this driver a 1. Seems to me we have a lot of disappointed AGP owners.

Whats the difference between Omega and the Official, as they give very little description on whats special about them.

Same question goes for this...

Will they get Crossfire to work better than the Official?

Also CATALYST maker, can you clarify the problems with 7.10 and Quakewars. This was fixed with the 7.9 HOTFIX set (Which also suffered corruption), and now its broken again in 7.10. See post #6

For those that are still having issues with the X1950Pro AGP cards, I've found that the following works on my setup... Note that installing the normal way hasn't worked since 7.8 on my setup.

Uninstall everything if the installation didn't go well -- black icons, no display etc, otherwise, just do the following over the existing drivers. (see other posts here on how to do a clean uninstall). Then instead of reinstalling with the ATI installer, do it manually by doing the following...

1) open the Device manager (Right-click on 'My Computer' then select Properties. From there choose Hardware then Device Manager.)

2) Locate the Display Adapters

3) Right click on one of them (this process needs to be done for both the normal and secondary) then select 'Update Drivers'

4) Select 'Not at this Time' then Next

5) Install from a list or specified location then Next

6) Make sure Search for the best driver in these locations: is selected then only check 'Include this location in the search:... In this box, browse to the location of the 7.10 XP drivers .. is should be C:\ATI\SUPPORT\7-10_xp32_dd_ccc_wdm_enu_53250\Driver\Driver\XP_INF

7) Click Next to install the drivers.

Repeat step 3-7 for the secondary display (or the one that you didn't do yet) and once finished, reboot. If you're still having issue (sometimes the SMARTGART options are NOT always on, I use ATT (ATI Tray Tools) to *force* them on, then reboot one last time and voilà, you should now have the 7.10 running on your setup

Good luck. -- Post if this method was successful or not.

P.S. Note that I've been running since 7.8 using this method and it`s been working flawlessly on my current games.

P.P.S. btw, I'm NOT the originator of this method.. I saw this on another forum a few months ago and decide to return the favor by posting it here. Can't remember the name of the fellow that first proposed it but if you read this, thanks much!

Just to add my 2 cents: I have a X1600 Pro 256 AGP and i had to rollback to 7.7 to get DirX to work.

Honestly, this is the first time something did not work with ATI drivers...

7.10 and 7.9 Omegas and Catalysts give me no DirectX support on my X700 AGP.

On a side note, when uninstalling the Omega 7.9s, my secondary display was listed as "PCI" and my primary was listed as "AGP". maybe a clue as to why it doesn't work...

I had that on my 9800XT. 7.8 is the last working AGP driver.

Yeah .. I voted 1 because of the AGP issue - Own a Radeon 9700 myself.
The drivers haven't been working for AGP cards for 3 months now .. I'd say the situation is quite serious.

Testing Direct3D with DXDIAG reports :

Direct3D 7 test results: Failure at step 8 (Creating 3D Device): HRESULT = 0x80004005 (Generic failure)
Direct3D 8 test results: Failure at step 8 (Creating 3D Device): HRESULT = 0x8876086c (error code)
Direct3D 9 test results: Failure at step 8 (Creating 3D Device): HRESULT = 0x8876086c (error code)

All Direct3D applications and games report similar messages.

I would like to see 3 things from AMD :

1) A fix.
2) Acknowledgement of the error and reassurance that they are working on it.
3) The driver download website updated so users with AGP cards are not presented with the option to download 7.10, but are instead redirected to the 7.7 driver.

the driver does work for some people with AGP systems, like me, it's the first driver since 7.8 that works for me. They should however warn people about the problems in the releasenote like they did with the 7.9 drivers.

I installed the 7.10 driver on my brother's system with an X1950 GT AGP card and its working flawlessly. I started by uninstalling the omega drivers, then running driver cleaner. Then I installed the new driver and all games seem to run perfectly. Got a boost in performance until I turned all the quality settings to max. Now its actually a bit slower than the omega 7.4 but it looks nicer so its an okay trade off So far I really like the adaptive AA. Looking forward to Omega's release.

Here a link comparing 7.10/9 - performance gain is zero+ in real life even they try hard to impress with bar lengths. Have a good laugh

The boosts with catalyst 7.10 has to do with improved DX10 performance, and in your link they test with X1900GT so basicly the fact that they still do get improved performacnce in some of the tests just means that theres improved performance even for other cards than HD-series.

Im haveing some trouble with playing movies on my tv when i extend the desktop to it and try to change the aspect ratio on bsplayer the screen goes black and then it crashes. This is strange since i reformated C: and installed the fresh copy of xp and installed these drivers and im using the same k-lite codec pack and the same version bsplayer that worked before.

Other than that these drivers are the best driver set since 7.6.

Unable to create 3D engine-directx failure

The 7.10 set did not work for me at all. Directx tests failed (unable to create 3d engine). Found others having similar issues. I have an ATI 1600 pro 512 Mb mem working fine under the 7.2 drivers. I tried 7.11 same issue. FInally just rolled back to the 7.2 set. Read tonight by those having similar issues that all is well up to Catalyst 7.8 than poof. I contacted ATI and their tech support had no knowledge of any issues. Well the Orange box is happy with Catalyst 7.2 and BF2/2142 have no issues, so I'll just let it be for now. The problem is more annoying than anything else...hope this helps some-it ain't your puter, it ain't your card-it is ATI's newer drivers...

By the way...my card is less than a year old...I suppose that the demise of AGP and Directx 9 and below is accelerating now...I think when I buy a new puter in a year or so I'll just buy a Gforce...ATI :-P
