Smilie Macbook Pro Mobility x1600 256MB

Hi,

I'm new here, and sure you get this all the time, but I run a MBP 2.33 with a Mobility x1600 256MB on boot camp. (M56?)
I love the Orange Box, and would love it even more to crank that bad boy up during a shooting spree!

I've read that "ATITool" would help me OC the UC'ed Mac x1600, but Apple's drivers sound like they get crashy when using it. I imagine the only solution is your well-celebrated Omega drivers.
The question is, do your drivers run the Mac's x1600?
As much as I'd love to just OC the x1600 to even it's proper speed, I'd like better drivers even more!
(Depending on Boot Camp updates is abhorrid!)

Thanks for putting up with a n00b, and all playing aside, if your drivers
can ramp up this MBP a donation is comin!

Any benchmarks with these!? I have tried all the 7's (not omega though), and have had a performance decrease over the 6.12 (wish Omega made 6.12 ) drivers.....

Using a 1900xt pci-e

Installed these...they suck for my 1900xt, just like all 7.x's have (at least in cs:s) (nothing against these omega drivers, all the cat ones sucked too)

Cat 6.12ccc
Highest settings: 223.45, 222.07
Lower settings: 238.25, 238.24

Omega 7.10
Highest settings: 190.31, 191.08
Lower settings: 210.03, 209.90

That's a pathetic decrease in fps...I know my card is last gen, but you'd think these driver updates would at least not HURT fps this bad.

Omega, can you PLEASE make some 6.12 drivers for us 1900xt users

EDIT: Tried to play Crysis beta w/ same settings, and it was unplayable...back to 6.12ccc......

Once again thanks Omega. The only drivers I've used for the last 5 years.

I tried these drivers because it said they were more compatible with Mobility products and they worked okay but there were a few things that concerned me. First, my framerates were slightly lower than with the 7.9 driver version, and secondly, the display options gave me resolutions to choose which this laptop is incapable of. I have an HP Pavilion 5215 with Mobility Radeon 200Xpress graphics with 128mb dedicated VRAM and it has a max resolution of 1280 X 800, which is also the only resolution I'm supposed to use. These drivers gave me options far beyond that and even some really strange ones like 800 X 1200, which I never even heard of and the 7.9 version gives 1280 x 800 as the maximum. I chose PCIe as the interface option and maybe shouldn't have?
I don't know if these things are really an issue but just thought you might like to know.

trip report

hi omegafans,

i always used the omega drivers (up to v3.8.360 cat 7.4 with my old r9800 pro agp). i never updated further since i didn't had any problems with games and heard bad things about cat 7.5 and above relating quality and performance. but a few weeks ago i bought the following cards:
- his excalibur radeon x1950 pro iceq3 turbo v2 512mb agp
- his excalibur radeon x1650 pro iceq 256mb agp

i wanted to give them a try with the new omega drivers v3.8.421 just to avoid problems in newer games like bioshock or crysis. i first chose pci-e in the installer to try the newer cat 7.10. installed and rebooted fine. started dxdiag and tried the direct3d tests:

Direct3D 7-Testergebnisse: Abbruch in 8 (3D-Gerät wird erstellt): HRESULT = 0x80004005 (Allgemeiner Fehler)
Direct3D 8-Testergebnisse: Abbruch in 8 (3D-Gerät wird erstellt): HRESULT = 0x8876086c (Fehlercode)
Direct3D 9-Testergebnisse: Abbruch in 8 (3D-Gerät wird erstellt): HRESULT = 0x8876086c (Fehlercode)

damn, seems like no cat 7.10 support for me so far. reinstalled with the agp option (cat 7.7 fallback as far as i know, but at least with the newest ati tray tool). installed and rebooted fine. started dxdiag and tried the direct3d tests:

Direct3D 7-Testergebnisse: Alle Tests waren erfolgreich.
Direct3D 8-Testergebnisse: Alle Tests waren erfolgreich.
Direct3D 9-Testergebnisse: Alle Tests waren erfolgreich.

at least cat 7.7 is working fine. so my question is, should i stay with them or revert back to the cat 7.4 with the omega drivers v3.8.360. which gives better performance, which gives better image quality? and is there any official statement from ati about the agp compatibility problems? any infos or suggestions will be highly appreciated.

here are some infos from the his excalibur radeon x1950 pro iceq3 turbo v2 512mb agp in my main gaming rig:

thanks omegadrive for your modified driver bundled with ati tray tool, the perfect solution for me

Thanks for your great job on this Omega. There's an interesting problem I've run into when I'm using your drivers (though out of all the options I have your drivers are outstanding in comparison to the rest :]).

To the problem: The videos (.avi, .mkv, etc.) I have on my computer play their sound perfectly but the image is just a blackscreen, doesn't change at all. I'm stumped at this. Tried fiddling around with BIOs and other things and it didn't do much.

What helped it was when I went into display options -> advanced -> troubleshooting and adjusted the slider to disable directdraw and d3d accelerations and lo' and behold the images in the movie files began to work again, however, they were somewhat of poorer quality than usual and they stuttered quite a bit at times. So this is just a temporarily solution it seems.

After doing everything in my power to fix it (the usual detailed in the sticky on the upper level board), this is the best I can figure out. :X Using your latest drivers on XP with a ATI Radeon 9550 256 MB AGP card.

Ah, just in case you need this: PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4153&SUBSYS_04021002&REV_00\4&1FE B96E4&0&0008 is the ID of my card.

EDIT: Sorry, er, apparently Youtube plays it fine and ditto with some intro movies in games. It seems to be just the videos that actually use the codecs via Windows Media Player or any other similar video player. So it must be a conflict between the codecs (Combined Community Codec Pack) that I'm using and this driver. Uh, now this is getting confusing.

Sorry about my earlier post. :X With a bit of tinkering around I was able to fix it. Nothing wrong with the drivers, apparently some setting keeps on getting botched in ffdshow and apparently it happens with later ATI versions for some reason. :O But nevertheless, now I'm ecstatic to report that this works fine with my ATI Radeon 9550, good work!

Hey Omega, I finally tried an earlier version of your drivers (3.8.360) on my Sapphire x1950xt and still had the same issue where the actual driver files are not installing, so it looks like it must be an issue between my card and Omega drivers in general (used to have an x800xt which worked fine with your drivers on my machine). Thanks much, and keep up the good work (I know you'll be busy with other issues people are having plus real life in general)!

System Specs

uninstalled omega 6.9 drivers, reboot, though my usb keyboard wouldnt work before the welcome screen (but works in bios), so it ended up booting normally one time before safemode, got my backup ps/2 keyboard, went into safemode, drivercleaner'ed ATI files, normal reboot, install omega 7.10 (no errors, AGP version), reboot, turned into 800x600 for some reason (well more weird was the whole screen was off to the left & off the edge), switched to 1024x768 & all is well

pretty sure ETQW is much more tolerable (opengl), prey appears to be super, 2142 great, source games great, ATT great, UT3 fine, & since it's nice & cold, core:mem mhz 533:567 (stock 520:560)

fraps seems to work fine, rfactor great, railsim is horribly unoptimized

everything's stable so far, just some minor glitches when far away objects are close together (like front parts of cars in rfactor or the street crossing 'paint' in UT3 when you fly far back)

havent played with forcing triple buffers in d3d games (probably doesnt matter since i dont use vsync) & havent checked out temporal/adaptive AA modes (rest is 6x AA, 2x AF)

EDIT: oook... i somehow broke ATT, 'wrong low level driver, please uninstall & reinstall ATT' after i removed the previous omega setup files & folders (or maybe from running it on another user account)

went to the official ATT site, reinstalled, should be ok now (icon changed)

as far as i know omegadrive modifies the ati tray tool included in his package to perfectly blend with his changes to the ati gfx driver. i'm not sure if it's recommended to use the regular att from the official website. to make sure everything works as intended:
1 - uninstall att and the gfx drivers completely (all versions of course)
2 - reboot to safe mode and cleanup with driver cleaner (only if you know what you're doing, else skip this step, should be ok without)
3 - install the newest omegadriver package, choose agp (cat 7.7) or pci-e (cat 7.10) according to your gfx cards interface
4 - reboot (short blackscreens & screenflashes after logging in indicates that the smartgart service is detecting your gfx hardware)
5 - i recommend another reboot as soon as everything is loaded and the screen stays normal (yes i'm paranoid)
6 - change all your desired settings in att and setup your game profiles
7 - under tools & options -> general options, press backup profiles and save the file somewhere
8 - login with another user, close att if its running! and doubleclick the saved ATT Backup.reg to import your settings to the users part of the registry
9 - now start att, voila

the resolution of your desktop has nothing to do with the resolution games are running (in general, even though there are some strange exceptions). you have to choose the correct resolution in the game's options. if your desired res is not available ingame, try searching the widescreengamingforum if a workaround or hack is known, maybe by changing a ini file or something like that.

yes i know that, but this only started to happen after i installed the omegadrivers. before i installed them, all games runned on fullscreen, now they just run on the middle of the screen at 4:3

ah, ic. in att please check display -> settings for a list of your connected displays. on the active display press options. now you're on the advanced tab. check the settings under adjustments, maybe the setting "preserve aspect ratio" is active.

very strange indeed, the effect you describe is what i desperately want to achieve when playing old 4:3 games on my 16:10 display, but it's not working for me. the setting "preserve aspect ratio" is greyed out on my setup, but i don't know why.

I have a problem, since installing last Omega drivers in my event viewer i keep getting Event Id-45062 (CRT invalid display type). When windows is loading, the monitor turns off, then it turns back on and displays the msg about using digital source, since it is an lcd. So why a CRT error?

Any ideas?

Tnx

it's greyed out on mine too. and its not checked. on display limits it says that i dont have DDC and that my max hres is 1024 and my vres 768. think it may have something to do with my problem??

hokai, reinstalled omegas since a single restart broke the drivers of what i had earlier, also changed my ram on schedule, & when i reinstalled omegas, the ATT icon is still the one that came with the separate ATT install, not the ATI logo usually seen in omegas

also the bench button doesnt go fullscreen... & dxdiag is superspeed for some reason

EDIT: oh &... it's supposed to hang around 4800 for the score

I installed the driver manually in the Device Manager as houseofswing and it works with my 2600XT AGP too. But there always is the problem with ATT that says me "Unable to retrieve information from BIOS!", and so I can't see my temperature. I have just the old control panel....
I try with other release of ATT that works for installation, but my frequencies appears 0MHz for the core and the mem (version 1.3.6.10.67b), it's impossible to see my temperature (Is ther one on this card?), no AGP option, etc....

Does anyone know if this latest ATI hotfix for Crysis graphics corruption is compatible with the latest Omega driver? I have a Sapphire X1950 Pro 512MB AGP which plays the demo pretty good but I've noticed a bit of texture flickering which is one of the things this hotfix is supposed to fix.

The rocks seem to appear right in front of you as you're moving forward too. You can even see guys behind rocks until you look through the weapon sights, then the rocks in front of them appear. Is this one of the ATI related graphics problems?

I love the Omega drivers and every time I've removed them and installed Cats out of other's suggestions they worked worse than the Omegas. So, if this fix doesn't work with Omegas I'll probably skip it and put up with the flickering and voodoo rocks for now.
