Sad Radeon HD2600XT problems, please help :)

hello every1,
i recently bought an ATI HD2600XT(PCIe) of Gecube (brand new) installed it on a brand new ASUS P5N-E SLI motherboard, installed a fresh installation of windows and i got problems.

well first problem, i installed the most recent Catalyst drivers (7.11) and i cannot "extend" my desktop to my TV, and i cant make the screen clone to the TV, i never had these problems with my previous 6600GT (AGP), back then i could extend my desktop to the same TV and everything was good.

in this Radeon i also had to connect my computer screen to the card through an adapter, DVI-to-VGA.(not sure if there is any relation to this though).

and another BIG problem is, i use Maya (3D program) thats using open GL, with the previous 6600GT i had no problems with it, now when i try to select an object and theres an object behind it, it selects the one behind it, SO ANOYING, and another problem is for example when i make a ball and divide to 200 by 200 (alot of polygons) then when i try to select and deselect it, it takes about 5 secs for each of those actions!! i tried it on a computer with FX5200 and 833MHz processor and it selects and deselect faster.

i know it's crappy open GL drivers of ATI, anyone knows about a fix or something? other than buying a new card?

i contact ATI and they basically told me the program doesnt support that card, it support their FireGL card costs like 2000$ , and basically tells me to go buy it, i told them that the program doesn't says to support a FX5200 but it still works faster on it.... (on the selection thing at least).

please help (and dont buy ATI , if you don't just play games)

i also tried to install the latest Omegadrivers and well they didnt work, i couldn't find anywhere that says that they are installed, (when i go to Properties through the desktop) or if i press the shortcut on my desktop "3D control panel" it basically dont find the item and start searching...

Greetings and welcome to DriverHeaven!

First of all, I'm using a VisionTek HD 2600 XT 512MB PCIe card on a ASUS P5N-E Sli board, too.

I'm using the latest CAT 7.11s (Official Drivers) w/ CCC and can Clone/Extend Desktop to TV just fine. The caveat is, you have to have the main monitor set to 1024x768 in order to get it to initially setup properly. Otherwise, my system would default to using my second CRT instead. Once the TV is active, you can then reset your monitor resolution to what you want.

I don't use MAYA, so, can't help you with that issue.

Good luck!

well my computer screen (main monitor) is set to 1024X768 when i start windows, still when i try to extend (enable) the TV through the CCC the main screen just flickers as it tries to change resolution and then turn back on without any change, nothing appears on the TV the only thing i can do is drag the TV icon in CCC monitor manager , to the Main box and do a Swap ... which turns off the computer screen and puts everything on the TV.

can it be a hardware problem in the card itself?

thanks for your reply

I'm having no problem at all. I can Clone the Desktop to the TV, Extend the Desktop to the TV, reconfigure the positions in relation to where my TV is located in relation to my monitor.

I'm using a straight S-Video cable connection from my video card to the TV if that's significant. You didn't state what type of connection you're using.

Have you tried to enable the Force TV option?

I'm not convinced that this is a hardware problem on the video card just yet. Just make doubly sure things are connected up the way they should be.

Now, one other thing: Keep in mind that when you check to enable the TV, any of these display changes must be 'Approved' within about 15 seconds or the settings revert to the default. If, by chance, the change is taking longer than 15 seconds, what may be happening is your setup is simply reverting to the default setting. You'll have to click an "Accept" option in order for the settings to be saved.

well i tried enabling Force TV option, no change at all.(tried it from the beggining)
im using composite cable connected to an adapter. the adapter is connected the TV out connection on the card (i bealive it's called component or something), but the adapter makes it into composite to fit the TV.

of course the screen doesnt go black for 15 secs ... i would notice that, it just flickers as if you change resolution and then get back to windows with the TV screen disabled (the picture where you have the "1" and "2" numbers in squares), i tried installing the drivers from the CD, no change at all, only worse FPS in Crysis (at the logo screen :P ).

can it be a hardware problem? it's not the first time i try to connect my PC to the TV , in the 6600GT it all worked fine, back then the card was connected to the TV through component-to-RGB cable and i connected the TV to a single color of it (i think it was somthing like that, if it's possible, the colors were fine just jaggy cause of composite).

hate it when new things dont work out as they should (and when it's not my mistake)
