Ya I'm really getting dissapointed with my x700 pro card there no love for performance for updated drivers anymore for my card. It seams there no respect either for x users for FPS at all. Right now I don't have money buy new card yet. I'm really really thinking switching to nvidia side when I buy my next computer. Unless there big surprise from ATI for all the love for xseries users that means x600 and up. Does anyone agree to my statement?

dont agree at all, 7.10 fixed my stutters in ETQW from 6.10
this series is almost 4yrs old, the performance is done you just have a lower high end card & it's showing its age.. what troubles do you have anyway? (& what resolution) |

i've since moved all the x700pro's into the "for vista areo and basic office use.. with the occasional light gaming"
soon as a generation made 2nd gen, the drivers tend to have hit thier limits... you may occasionally see the odd "bump" once in awhile.... but typically... my x1900's grew old and dated and lacked any improvements that are were major enless there was indeed a major bug (but usually address all series) the minute the HD series launched

Yes, you just have to realize that the PC ages pretty fast these days. Most PCs are actually already out of date when they reach the retail shelves.
Same goes for video cards.

For the pre-X1K cards, the last major developments were dual core tweaks (5.13, was that?) and the smoothing out of CCC with the 7.x series.
The only other thing, if it EVER gets fixed, it would be nice to be able to try Java with the finely tuned OpenGL renderer, without the colours screwing up. (Java flag -Dsun.java2d.opengl=True )

I'm sorry but ATI graphic cards are for image quality purposes only, if you want performance set the 'Catalyst AI' option to 'Advanced' for an improved frame rate. With this option set to advance you would technically be running NVIDIA drivers as they drop the image quality to gain better performance.
Better frame rate think NVIDIA Better image quality think ATI Looking over the Catalyst 7.10 release notes its not difficult for ATI to snap a finger and drop all image quality for a better frame rate. But in most cases they work on all side of things...reliability being the most important. I don't know what CPU your running but I remember when I had my X800GTO and was getting 20FPS on Far Cry on max details, I upgraded my 2.4GHz P4 to a 3GHz P4 and I saw an improvement on 10FPS in ALL games. You may be bottlenecking but its an X700 so I very much doubt this is the case. |

You could also just select All 3D options and select Performance as the default.

oh right the cpu.. 2.4ghz p4 is horrible! i can guarantee a cpu bottleneck, for example, UT3 (demo) on the shangrila map where the shockrifle is, looking back at the rest of the map, you'd get about 10-20fps regardless of image quality settings/rez (while keeping models/world detail to max)
& forget 3dmark, just make sure the games arent horribly falling apart |

Hey, I have an X700 now (haven't upgraded in AGES), but I am happy with it's performance. Upgrading after Christmas, because I have a new HD TV, and can only play UT3 with low settings (2 for Textures, 1 for World Detail
).Also, it looks like your PC is even more dated than mine .With overclocking, I was able to add 8-10 FPS to a lot of games, and made UT2004 playable for me. But, it's time has come and gone... Be thankfull you haven't had problems with it, like others on this Forum!!! cause_of_chaos

I was impressed with the extra performance I got with OpenGL games for my X850XT when Cat 7.8-Cat 7.9 was released. When it comes to DX games I haven't seen much improvement the last year so I'm pretty confident that there won't be any more either.
There's always a limit, you cant squeeze more juice out than the fruit has in it. Maybe it's possible to get a bit more out in OpenGL, ATI drivers hasn't been as good with OGL as nvidia has, but I really don't see much of it coming. With DX I'm sure there isn't any more to get with our old cards.. there's no point in demanding something that's just not possible. One thing I can tell you though. Getting a faster CPU will probably give you some extra performance. My X850 got a completely new life when I went from an Athlon XP 3200+ to an Athlon 64 X2 5200+, my FPS almost doubled in some games. |
