??? Driver Issues

Hey everyone

I have looked everywhere online and cannot find a solution to my issue.
I have an 1950XT GT, and I am trying to do this on a fresh installation of Windows XP Home:

I cannot get the video card to work properly in this sense – one of the first things I did after installing Windows was to install the latest Omega drivers (keep in mind, I have NEVER had this problem in the past… my last Windows installation with this exact same setup worked perfectly fine), and it does not load the drivers properly when I restart, and the video card remains absent from the display devices on the Device Manager.

Now, I remove the Omega drivers, use a driver cleaner, install the stock 7.11 Catalyst drivers, and it shows up in the Device Manager properly and it seems the drivers are installed and working… BUT… when I try to start a game, it is obvious that something is wrong because any kind of 3D application will either crash or give me some kind of error message or will give me a plain black screen.

So after doing some research, I tried installing the Omega drivers on top of the Cats (I’ve seen numerous reports say that that works as long as you remove the Catalyst Control Center), and it does not change a thing… it still shows the ATI drivers being installed, and games/3D applications still do not work.

Trying something a little different, I install an older Cat, using 7.4, and try those, as well as trying to install Omega drivers on top, and still nothing.
I try removing the Cat drivers, installing an older Omega driver, still the same result (improper display, no display device in Device Manager).

I finally decided to reinstall Windows, thinking maybe something got corrupted somewhere… and that made absolutely no difference, I am still stuck with the same issue.

I cannot think or find anything to resolve this issue… this is really frustrating. Can you please help with any kind of input?

Many Thanks,
Todd

Greetings and welcome to DriverHeaven!

First of all, when you do a new installation of Windows, it's ALSO necessary to install the motherboard and chipset drivers. These are found on a separate CD/DVD that came with the motherboard or with the system you purchased. However, it's always best to check the website for the motherboard and get the latest drivers for it from there. Check also whether there is a newer BIOS that may fix certain issues that you maybe encountering.

Additionally, once you have Windows, the motherboard drivers, chipset drivers, and, if needed the newest BIOS, installed, be sure to get the Windows UPDATES from Microsoft. This would include the latest DirectX drivers.

THEN, after this, install the video card drivers and any other device drivers and see if the problem persists.

Good luck!

Well the problem is that that is exactly what I do, and it doesn't work. Not only that, but even more confusing, is that I have done this a number of times with this same system, and every time it worked flawlessly. But this time it didnt...

Have you added other hardware, additional RAM, or anything else since the last Windows installation?

I'd recommend removing everything that isn't absolutely necessary, even down to just one stick of RAM if you have more than one, install Windows, the other drivers, and then, once you have the video card working properly, start adding the other devices.

Really hope you have success. It's not a nice way to start off the New Year, is it?

Hi,

If 2D only, this is usually a sign that the extra power cable's not connected,
or the power supply can't give the card enough juice. Once powered up OK
it'll appear in the hardware list.
