Sapphire Radeon X1950 Pro AGP - best drivers in your opinion?
Hi everyone, great to be here
I've had my Sapphire Radeon X1950 Pro for a couple of weeks now and am loving it, but have had problems with the latest Omega drivers so I've decided to stick with the official Catalyst ones. I am currently using the 7.7 ones that came with the card but have noticed a slight drop in quality from the Omega ones. I know some of the recent ones have created issues for those still on AGP so I really want to use the most reliable ones if possible. Also, I've heard for the best results it's recommended that a combination of the Catalyst Drivers and ATI Tray Tools is best, rather than using the CCC. How will this improve things?

The latest 8.1 hotfix drivers from ATI are working pretty well here.

is there a link for the hotfix? or do the 8.1s have the hotfix already in them? i'm still using the CAT 7.6s due to fearing that something would happen to my OS or gfx card for using anything newer due to the issues they've been experiencing.

Cool, looks like 8.1 is the way to go
Do I download the 8.1 drivers then install the fix, or just install the fix itself?

You can install the hotfix alone, I'm on it for maybe a week and I didn't see any problems (x1950 Pro AGP Powercolor) but some guys on this forum have encountered some issues with it, being only a hotfix, so take care !

Hofix drivers only here. I did initially install the original cat 8.1`s and I`m sure the d3d didn`t work soo I uninstalled and installed the fix only.
Played UT3 pretty much all week and have been fine. |

so, the 8.1 hotfix is a driver or you have to install the CAT 8.1 driver then the hotfix, or you install the hotfix and then the driver?
i'm confused... |

I installed the hotfix alone, and all seems to be well so far
Is Tray Tools a notable improvement over CCC?

i do use ATT over CCC personally. i like the fact that you have many more options over CCC when using ATT.
i'll install the hotfix when i get home

8.1s are fine, as long as you don't have an NF2 chipset. Does not appear ATI will (be able to) fix this...for whatever reason.

I did tests with the cat drivers in the last year with my 1950 agp - in World Of Warcraft the best performance was with the Cat 7.4

I just purchased a radeon x1950 256 agp video card with the purpose of playing World of Warcraft with it... Stepping up from my Radeon 9600 XT but I can't even find a driver that will run it. I tried Omega and it reset my computer when I ran WoW. The latest Catalyst drivers didn't work for me, and when I tried to use the hotfix version it gave me some error along the lines of "Couldn't find a device to run this with"
I'm going to attempt using the driver uninstall utiliy off of Guru3d.com and maybe try to use the Omega ones again, but someone help me! Let me know if there's anything i'm doing wrong! |

I installed the Hotfix drivers after a thorough driver cleaning, and what happens now is the VPU resets like 20 times when running a game and then it ultimately system locks. I put on the Omega drivers and it randomly freezes and then gives me a screen full garbled colors on the main monitor and nothing on the left monitor. It seems the 2 drivers that are supposed to work don't work for me at all.
I enabled Fastwrite in Bios and tried doing an install of omega using it because I read it on some forum somewhere to try it. I tried to tweak it using the ati tray tools utility but every time im running with one of the drivers installed I either get crazy vpu crashes(resync clicking every 15 seconds) with the 8.1hotfix or complete loss of visible video with the omega one. I'm totally screwed here and about to just pull the board from my system and ebay it and accept my losses. Last edited by jamiecypher; Feb 11, 2008 at 03:20 AM. |
