I ordered a ATI radeon hd 2600 agp from newegg.com and i have been having all kinds of problems first thing i did was update the video card drivers and the newest driver didnt support my card(Catalyst 8.2) but the 2nd newest did so i went with the 8.1 so i launch one of my favorite games Guild wars and when it loads i get what looks like a bunch of stars in a black sky, like about 80% just black and 20% randomly scattered very small squares about the size of this "[ ]" so i am like whatever i will just play something else so i launch BF2 and most of text is unreadable its really weird like the text is half gone on some letters, completely gone on others and perfectly fine on some. on top of that the grass has random squares sticking out of it and if i scope my gun i see 3 guns. i also tried wow it was really bad too and i tried to watch a tv show on VLC media player, there was just a big green box. i tried the 8.1 hotfix it did not help, i tried omega drivers but they crash my system on startup after the welcome screen. Is my card faulty or is it the drivers or possibly something else?
Edit added screen:i can atleast run it with the drivers on the disc but still horrible http://joecow6780.tripod.com/gw001.jpg Last edited by joecow678; Feb 27, 2008 at 03:24 PM. Reason: added screen shot |

Welcome to DH.
We need some more information about your system. Give your hardware details and what operating system you are running. Also, did you do a clean format of your computer after installing the new card? Did you run drivercleaner? First guess is that there may be a driver conflict. Often when updatign major hardware components, it is advised to reformat and reinstall windows. If you can't/don't want to do that, you should at least run drivercleaner to get rid of all the old traces of the old drivers. |

Either really. I'd maybe take a look at the officially supported ones, to ensure the best compatibility. You will also want to reinstall the chipset drivers.
I'd try DriverCleaner first, but it is highly suggested that you reformat and reinstall after adding/changing major hardware (CPU/Mobo/GPU/etc). |

um what was the previous card??
8.1 hotfix is for agp users, but i'd just use omega 7.12, though i think there are a lot of 2600 agp threads in the forum |
