Assistance with an error please...
Ok I will start off by saying "Hello everyone, I'm ScarecroW aka Steve and I am new here...lol"
But really I just downloaded the Omega drivers and I must say they work perfectly, however I am getting an issue that I am feeling is related to either a dieing video card or an overheating issue and I was wondering if someone could give me a little advise on it, when I am trying to play COD4 I am getting an error that says "The ATi HotKey Poller service terminated unexpectedly." and prior to installing the Omega drivers when I was using the ATi Cat 8.3 drivers I was recieving the "\System\System 32\ativvaxx.dll failed to load." now if I am correct in assuming both of those errors indicate a issue with the direct 3D acceleration on the card and I am going to be looking at getting a new card in the next few weeks if things dont change soon...am I right? I have also noticed another error that could be the main cause of this issue as well but considering what it is pertaining to I cant see that being the case, the second/third error I am currently getting is "Your computer was not able to renew its address from the network (from the DHCP Server) for the Network Card with network address XXXXXXXXXXXX. The following error occurred: The semaphore timeout period has expired. . Your computer will continue to try and obtain an address on its own from the network address (DHCP) server.". This error I have a feeling has to do with the current downloading configuration I am using to bypass a packet sniffer but even when it is disabled and I go to play COD4 I am still only able to play for about 10 minutes before the connection times out and I end up looking at the error screen, I'm not 100% sure that its the connection though because of the simple fact that I have been getting the two previous errors as well...so...what do you guys think? time for a new video card? "ATi HotKey Poller service" is redundant for most users and can be disabled with e.g. "ATI Tray Tools" or "Sysinternals Autoruns".
Is your Windows XP Pro the 32-bit version? If so, disable 1 GB with MSCONFIG/boot.ini/enhanced option: /maxmem=3072 |

Yeah it is the 32bit version, I just removed 2GB of the ram and I set the Poller Service to terminate on boot and I am still getting the "Your computer was not able to renew its address from the network (from the DHCP Server) for the Network Card with network address XXXXXXXXXXXX. The following error occurred: The semaphore timeout period has expired. . Your computer will continue to try and obtain an address on its own from the network address (DHCP) server." error or warning when the computer has been running for more than 5 minutes and I am still crashing out of COD4 after about 10-20 minutes with a "Connection Interrupted" error...god this is driving me nuts!!! |
