radeon hd 2400 pro agp driver issues

hello all

i am in desperate need of help here. i recently purchased a visiontek radeon hd 2400 pro agp. the drivers from the cd worked fine, a little slow, but not terrible. i believe they were running cat 7.8. i use my computer for gaming, so i wanted to update to the latest drivers. i downloaded and installed visiontek's 8.3n drivers and i found that, while they installed perfectly fine, when i tried to play a 3d game, 3d would not load and i would recieve a message from vpu recover.

so i figured it was a driver issue. i have downloaded every single driver compatible with my card and to no avail. even omega drivers had this issue.

then i tried ati's hotfixes. same issue .

i started to do some research on my own, and i found that 3d webgames work, ableit very slowly, and only after i recieve the vpu recover message. also, the direct x diagnostic tests work !

i have never been more confused in my life. i am planning on upgrading to a more dedicated machine this summer, but i want this one to last until then. any help is greatly appreciated. by now i am open to any ideas.

if there are any further questions dont hesitate to ask.

my specs:

p4 2.4 ghz
2 mb ram
visiontek radeon hd 2400 pro agp
windows xp professional (not x64) sp2
the current driver i have came from the cd.
it is cat 7.8

Well i am using this card:



PCI version. Driver disc that came with it is actually 8.2 , but i recently downloaded the full driver from visiontek which is 8.3, no problems. I also never had any trouble with the VPU recover.

My advice what you can try is , uninstall the drivers, CCC in the add remove list, but don't restart your computer. Next, uninstall the Card in device manager but don't restart. Next, use driver cleaner pro, and clean out all ATI' files. Then restart your computer in safe mode, once in safe mode, install the driver again, restart into normal mode, then install the CCC driver.

And see how it works. You could also try downloading and installing the 8.4 driver.

i have an agp card, i dont know whether this affects it or not, but it may be slightly different than the pci.

also, the issue is not with vpu recover itself, but rather, when i try to load up a game the screen goes black, i recieve a message from my monitor saying there is no input signal, then vpu recover appears telling me that my graphics accelerator was no longer responding, so it was reset.

WOW, never heard of anything like that before. Here is a message that i found:

" No signals are passing from the video Card to the monitor. The cable itself is probably bad (since you're no getting video card failure beeps.) "

My guess its the cable cord from the monitor to the card or your card is bad.
Try buying a new card if you can and also buy a new cord. The cords runs about 20 dollars or less, and you have AGP you can find cards waaaaaaay cheaper then PCI cards. I bought the 2400 PRO PCI for 137 dollars.

As comforting as it can be, were on the same boat bro.
I as well got myself a new 2600pro AGP version, and every driver i install gives the same result u experienced, the only driver that works for me is the latest omega drivers.
Imo its a problem only with the AGPs.
I hope this will be solved sometime.

i happen by chance to own two different monitors, they are relatively similar and they each have a separate cable, same result on both. i am very close to just buying a new card, but i am planning on purchasing a top of the line alienware or hp blackbird this summer, so i would rather not spend anything else on the this computer. i personally believe it is a hardware issue, because the dx diagnostic tests were successful, and 3d games online worked as well. note that it only flashed "no signal" for a second, then it gave me the vpu recover screen on the desktop.


i do think it is an isolated agp issue, and i have never heard of another case of it before this. shalbik, what kind of computer do you have?

quite similar to yours in terms of specs and age.
no doubt this is a problem related to the hybrid agp card.
i have to note as well that on any drivers i tried, i could NOT overclock this card at all, no software can actually determine the clocks, which is very odd.
i guess this card wasnt the best choice of all, but cant cry over spilled milk.
hopefully one day will come, and this card will get its respect.

I know I am abit late on this, seeing as though the last post is dated back on 2008...

Anyhow I feel it is my duty to answer the problem even though noone has this card anymore. The answer is very simple actually. The card you have is a fake,it is actually POWERED BY ATI not BUILT BY ATI. See ATI makes their drivers for their cards and not for cards made by other manufacturers. Not to mention that you also have no clue as to what you are talking about. As long as it has an ATI GPU on the card, the ATI Drivers work with it. It doesn't matter WHO makes the card.

OH, and for your information the "Built BY" cards were actually manufactured by SAPPHIRE. ATI never made their own cards.
