Lines on Startup
I have read threw a lot of forums that deal with verticle lines and radeon cards, but i have not come up with any solid ideas. On some startups and reboots (cold or warm), Windows has verticle distorted colored lines about an inch apart. I have read about defective cards, or bios settings, but since it is so rare and infrequent i cant make any conclusions. I have the latest bios for my mobo, i have the latest cats (where i did uninstalling drivers for noobs), and the latest motherboard drivers. This problem only came to be once i switched to a new radeon 9700pro, I had a gigabyte Radeon 9700pro but newegg stopped caring them so i got an FIC 9700pro in return. That is when this problem started. I have not reinstalled windows, though I was thinking that could help. I am curious about maybe flashing my bios of the radeon card. Any thoughts or suggestions?
My system is: Athlon XP 2000+ 256megs of ram (2-2-2-3) i have messed with the timings 2x80 gig HDs Epox 8rda radeon 9700pro Windows XP pro with all updates

99% sure the only solution would be an RMA for a working card.... though a BIOS fix might help. Still, you should not buy a card and then have to flash the BIOS to get it working properly. If it doesn't work from the box properly, I'd RMA it....

Why did you RMA the first one? Did that have lines too?

PS--- Actually BigShotGorilla, I dealt with a guy there that really helped me out, his name was CARLOS, ask to talk to him, then tell him what happened, tell him you don't think it's cool that they gave you an FIC in replacement for a Gigabyte and you want your money back. If your lucky he will tell you he will give you your money back, or you may have to speak w/ a manager. My situaltion was a little different, I didn't accept their offer for replcement w/ a different brand right away, then they offered me a refund of "current value", which was 50 dollars less than I originally paid for the card. I said WHAT!!?!? are you kidding me?? and started sounding pissed, (because I was), then the guy said, OK, we'll give you a full refund. It may take a little effort, but it will be worth it, then take the money and go get a 9800pro
