AHHHHHH am i the only one? when i installed 3.4 cats GTA VCs Main Menu Is all Phucked

I was realy looking forward to seeing the new AA and AF performace in GTA VC but to not even be able to get into the game
thats bloody annoying.

what the hell am i the only one with this problem ? omega`s 3.2 cats worked fine ????

i dont phucking understand how something that ran good with 3.2 cats and you change to 3.4 expecting things to stay the same or even better. but this isnt the case.

sorry for the launguage but ffs

just reinstalled gta vc but the bug is still there i alt+tab out of the game then clicked the link and for some reason that fixed it the menu showed up...... hmmm so i did it again and it crashed my hold system with a BLUESCREEN OF DEATH i have never seen one of those in agessssssss

the error was from this file.

ati3dutg.dll

Just over at rage3d and they were saying build the textures again and delete the gta.set file in C:\userfiles\my docs

Set the draw distance to normal.

Some people were okay with it. I don't have the game yet, but I did go to PC world and they didn't have it! Gonna order it online.

I tried again and it was screwed up worse than the first time. Maybe it's just me. I'm trying IGI 2 and SOF II, it really stutters, or at least I guess that's what you'd call it, a pause every 2 or 3 seconds. Plus even when on the net, with IE, the scrolling is very rough.

the menu is totaly fixed now and all i had to do was delete a file in my user data in my documents gta vc folder called :gta_vc.set

dam lol what is this file ? is it a user data catche file ? if it is then that explaines the reason for the menu corruption .

Unfortunately, that didn't work completely. The main menu works, but ingame the textures tend to corrupt. Ultimately trying to exit the game results in a BSOD.

Gonna sleep now, maybe tommorow more news about this prob.

here is a screen shot from ingame the texture drawing sucks and i got a BSOD from a file ati3dsomething.dll the name is above in my previous posts

You are correct, it's all your user settings. Mainly video, audio, & control...but something from the driver version you're using must be stored there too because I ALWAYS had that problem with the old GTA3 too whenever I'd change drivers.

It ain't just ATi, it happens to nVidia users too. You gotta delete that file and re-enter your settings in GTA3 each time you change your drivers.

the game worked perfect with omega`s 3.2 cats but now with 3.4 cats everything is messed up curruption in main menu worse corruption in game.

hard to say, but for the many PCs that i seen this game run on, the game has been running fine. VERY few people have this issue... people who are running ATi that is. Nvidia still has (so far from what i have read over the past few days) more issues. Even on my lil'R100 32 megger, the game looks fine.

Like i said before, there will never be a driver that will be perfect on EVERYONES machine. That will just never happen... Especially the way the PC industry is today.

What card are you using?
8500 or 9700?

Then go bad to the Omegas "Mate"! Thats the smart thing to do, If your game worked "perfect" with omega stay with it.
I'm useing the 3.4s and it works fine. The only problem I have with them is I didnt get a speed boost. But so far in my games there good.

Read the readme file that came with the game. From the readme:

Changing hardware / re-initialization:
Changing either your video card or soundcard may mean that you get Grand Theft Auto:
Vice City into an "invalid" settings state for the particular hardware. If you change
hardware, to prevent having to un-install and re-install Grand Theft Auto: Vice City,
perform the following:-
Video card:-
- delete from the "Grand Theft Auto Vice City/models" directory the files
"TXD.DIR" and "TXD.IMG" (if they exist)
- delete from the "Grand Theft Auto Vice City/data" directory the file
"CAPS.DAT"
- delete from the "Documents and Settings/Current logged-in User/
My Documents/GTA Vice City User Files" directory the "GTA_VC.SET" file.

You jest, but there's an arwful lot of truth in what ya say. The biggest trick to helping people with their PC problems is getting used to writing the same thing a couple of hundred times and not getting annoyed at the same questions over & over & over & over.

I did a clean uninstall of the Omega 3.2, and installed 3.4 yesterday. 3DMark2003 did get a 200-300 point gain. But now my GTA Vice City wont work at all. I click on the shortcut and nothing happens. Program doesn't appear in task manager, all I get is the hourglass mouse pointer for like 2 seconds then nothing. Does anyone else have this problem?? Someone please help!

i have uninstalled and reinstalled the game that didnt work.
i have deleted the file in my gta_vc.set that did the trick the game did load and the menu was fixed

and if i started a game then it would work but it would look like shit

the minute the problems start is when i turn frame limit OFF and i bump up the draw distance.

now with the 3.2s this wasnt a ishue i could turn frame limit off and max the draw distance and everything was nice .

but with 3.4 i cant do that or i get a load of coruption ingame and then i get a bsod from a ati3d dll file....

I've heard of a LOT of people having trouble with the new drivers & nVidia cards...but in fairness to nVidia it really does seem that the majority of the peeps having problems can fix them too with the same fix, with the exception of the 5200 peeps. There seems to be a real bug with the latest FX drivers, GTA:VC, & the 5200 series that no one has found a cure for yet.

I wish I could help ya more with the ATi problem, but I can't right now.

I checked for the files to delete, but I dont have any of them in those folders...

Well i have figured my problem out with the new drivers down to a tee...,

the problem is simple. ENABLE FRAME LIMIT and there is no problems at all.

Turn FRAME LIMIT OFF and you get Corruption Galoure....

Untill this is fixed im gonna have to have it ON DAM becuse i like the performance i get with em

im at 1280x1040 6aa 16af = smooth at ice though its even smoother with frame limit OFF but what the hell i can still play it right :P

so guys if you have problems then i think the no1 cause is frame limit OFF

I have the game now, and it runs sweet. Installed after installing cat 3.4. I ran it at 1600 * 1200 4 * AA 16 * AF - low 45 avg 75 fps.

I am going to put it at 1024 * 768 so I get a clean 100fps. It may give 100fps at high res I don't know. It is definately the a better state of game engine than gta3!
