Great drivers; but hard to install. I got a good install after 3 trys. That was using the cleaner. I gave them a 9.

I gave them a 10 because my 3DM2K3 score went from 4578 to 4898, 320 point increase!

I gave them a 8, because the corrupted textures in "Jurassic Prak: Operation Genesis" aren't gone when I set "Terrain quality" to high on my 8500LE!

Was the original score w/ the soft mod? It's weird because my score with the 3.2's + soft mod gave me 4851 with a MUCH slower system than yours. Just wondering. (I OC'd my card- maybe that is the difference)

Not over-clocked or soft moded.

Gave them 10 ... I am not interested in any performace boosts, all I am interested in is compatibility! And ATI does a great job here

Well I rated the drivers 6.

First of all the hype and tension that was built around it is exaggerated. Then again the 'performance, performance, performance' improvements mainly affect AA & AF. Not that this is a bad thing but if you run resolutions 1280x960 and up @ 100Hz on a 21'' professional CRT than AA & AF are not exactly what you need to enable for amazing image quality.

The fixes are pretty neat but then again who plays: Bounty Hunter, Jurassic Park demo, Heli Heroes, AirStrike3D etc really? Other games with potential issues come to my mind like Asherons Call 2, BF1942, HL FPS.

Oh and maybe CM might want to take a look at www.maxon.net for Cinebench2003 which is based on professional rendering software, which uses OGL. That score decreased.

Anyway it's a stable upgrade but nothing spectacular.

9500 or 9700 catalyst drivers

I will answer your question about which driver to use i don't have any ideal which one it will install but best bet is the 9700 version i would try both versions and Benchmark them and also run for at least a day apiece to see how stable the driver is different people will get different results almost every Pc is different from someone else's via Pci cards Bios'es etc: they is no one size fits all.The best advice i can ever give people is if you have the money to flash and play enjoy but if having a piece of your hardware bit the bullet it isn't for you i don't flash anything but Motherboard Bios and only when necessary i haven't seen any Software out there that taxes my System to where i have to do anything to my hardware Software is at least two years behind Hardware.DOOM III will put a system through it's paces when released next month .i believe your question wasn't answered because the only one that has the answer to your question is yourself you have the system do different benches and run both if i was a betting person i would say that the drivers saw that you have a 9700 videocard .

So far it's an 8. The HL bug is gone, Pete's OpenGL plugins are working better with ePSXe (not 100% yet, thought), and games seem to run a bit smoother with AA on.

i never bench new releases of drivers.. is there any performance difference between old 3.2 catalyst and new ones on 8500 series?

Rayder is just super!Rayder is just super!Rayder is just super!Rayder is just super!Rayder is just super!Rayder is just super!Rayder is just super!

I gave them a 9. Image quality is through the roof. They installed very easily and all I did was uninstall the old driver and control panel and installed the new ones. Didn't even run driver cleaner.

They fixed 2 games that had problems for me: Drome Racers no longer goes into an infinite loop and another game(won't mention which 'cause it ain't really released yet ) now play the videos where it used to just show a blank screen.

2 games still have problems: Incoming still has the screwed up graphics that started with the 3.0's. Big Scale Racing still has flickering textures and overlays that also started with the 3.0's. Both of these games never had a problem before the DX9 drivers were released.

Those are my findings after 'quick-testing' 28 games.

Since those two games have always had problem with DX9 drivers, I only took 1 point off for it.

All in all, I'd have to say good job to the Catalyst team.

EDIT: I didn't bother to run any benchies, I don't put much stock in them other than for a little thrill....

EDIT EDIT: GTA VC runs like a charm, at least 10x better than GTA3 ever did.
For those that seem to care about benchies, my 3DMark01 score went up about 200 points(89xx to 91xx), 3DMark03 up about 100 (13xx to 14xx). I run benchies in 'real world' mode, I.E. set to quality but no AA or AF.

I have to say it again, the IQ is freakin' great!! Now if only those 2 games could get fixed, I'd be golden.

I gave them a 7, they are more stable than 3.2 but I also lost about 200 points on 3DMarkSE. I have a 8500LE and the scores are down from 6934 to 6734, otherwise the drivers appear to be very stable on games tested so far, war3, hitman2, mafia, unreal and CS. I have not upgraded to DirectX9.0a so this might improve the scores, I am still running DirectX8.1

I still need to upgrade the driver on my 7500 machine running win98, so I will comment again later.

Thanks for keeping the Catalyst updated and continueing the constant improvement, Ati rules

Great Driver's

These driver's rock so far on my back-up rig, can't wait to try'em out on my main once my RMA comes through on my Asus A7N8X Deluxe. Only negative is in EverQuest in the bazaar framerates drop lower (around 5 with 480 people in the zone) than the 3.2's. Could be cpu and crappy GA-7AX related though.Gave'em a 9
Thanks too for the MMC/DVD upgrades a very unexpected suprize

Very good release, cs issue fixed (i use 3.1 because 3.2 crash cs...)... only one thing... Why you don't put 1280x960 resolution? I get PowerStrip to make avaiable this resolution... ever for CS...

My vote is 9.

Sorry for my bad english

THese drivers are great. My system now runs 8x agp in all games and catalyst screensavers.
I thought this was due to a hardware incompatability.
Only problem is me getting green lines, blocka or fields all over my screen in windows and in 3d games. Sometimes they are following the walls or the ground rendering them with green lines or fields.

Just typical my luck that very probable my system should fail just when the drivers work flawless.
I also had to remove one ram last week, because it was bad, maybe that did it, even if I have tried that before.

Soundblaster audigy platinum EX

Man, there are like a bazillion dudes on the web now all pretending to be me! There's a guy at Rage3D, one at nVnews, and then there's that poser over at Elite Bastards too....not to mention the guy who got banned over at Andre's House of Snores!

j/k

Yeah, it was me. I chose me GF3 over me 8500, then just recently upgraded to a GF4 ti4400 and cycled the GF3 to me #2 rig and dumped me 8500 off on a friend. (Sorry Quinn, I'll make it up to you. )

I love me GF3 & GF4, but I am NOT liking nVidia lately. I swore I'd never buy another ATi product until they showed me that they had changed, so they sent me a 9500 Pro to play with for a week and WOW!!!!

I'm STILL jonesing for that 9500 Pro, it's just a whole 'nother league up from me GF3/GF4. Truly another plateu of performance. Once you get used to a lot of good AA & AF it is DAMNED HARD to go back!

I just am too cheap to upgrade, I got a 3 & 5 year old that I stay at home with and I can't just be blowing cash on toys. I buy used/cheap whenever I can/see something and get the best I can for me money.

Me rigs are in me sig; it's me wifes, mine, my 5 year old son, and my 3 year old daughter's PCs in that order.

Oh, did I mention I didn't like nVidia lately? I REALLY don't like nVidia lately.

Yeah, you do seem to get around! I think I've seen you on at least 3 boards I lurk @

P.S. your computer sig reads like the evolution of computers

Okay on-topic now! I was pretty much just testing out games so far. I seem to start testing a game then keep playing it, so three hours later I had tested 4 games: Unreal2 (seemed good), Splinter Cell (otay), BF1942 (no problems), Jedi Outcast (all good). I'll throw some benches at it tonight if I get a chance, but I'm expecting my Canterwood motherboard in today, so the benches may have to wait!

P.S. I can't tell much of a difference between the 3.2-3.4's so IMO that's a good thing! I'm gonna rate the drivers at an 8 for now.

Will post new 3dMark2001SE/2003 results when I get home today.

CAT 3.2 Bench - 3DMark 2001SE

3DMark 2K3 w/3.2 = 5412

UPDATE: Sorry took so long to get back. After installing 3.4's everything seems to run smoothly. Experienced some texture corruption in Enter the Matrix, but that game is so buggy atm that I highly doubt it's ATI's problem.

New 3dMark2001 score CAT 3.4 Bench - 3DMark 2001SE

I haven't run 2K3 yet, will give another update when I have. Peace out ya'll!

See Sig for system specs...

Have to say I actually lost FPS stability with the new driver, but the overall look was better.
I've since installed the new 3.4 Omegas and am a happy camper once again...

It must be the soft mod that is adding to the stability of the frame rate...

My feeling is I know what the card can do with and without the soft mod, and it makes no sense to me to use a driver without the soft mod again...

ROFLMFAO~~~~~~

Funny thing...it IS kind of the evolution of computers. It's the reason I'm all intel, everytime I upgraded I just sort of cycle all the parts down the line. I am SO blown away by the whole range of the 440x generation intel chipset for it's range!!! I started off with a PII350 64MB Xpert98 w/8Gb (Blue before she became Blue Pheonix, she's pretty much been born again a couple times over.) that evolved into the first three systems in me sig over the last 5 years or so!

Babs was a flat-out addition that was kindly & annonymously (thanks Mom!!!) donated to me from a local companies old equipment room that I spruced up with some old parts lying around and painted bright pink for me daughter....she LOVES it!

It's one thing to talk about doing it yourself, it's another thing for a company representative to suggest to you ways to void your warranty. He CAN'T tell you, it's not that he doesn't want to.

You gotta remember that even though CatMaker is here in a non-official capacity he's STILL bound to a lot of obligations/NDA/ramifications for what he says here with ATi. If he says he can't help you with something, please take him at his word and don't harsh him for not helping...he helps us all out more than anyone I know!
