Driver update failed on Toshiba Notebook, what to do?

Hello,

Yesterday I went to upgrade my video driver, which failed and now my notebook doesn't have the driver correctly installed and I can't reverse it, I did a system restore but it didn't help because the old files for the driver are gone.

I have a Toshiba Satellite M70 FE5 with Windows XP.

I had gone to both the ATI and Toshiba websites and downloaded the drivers, none will work.

Right now I get this error message when I try to update the driver via the device manager, it's called "Video Controller (VGA Compatible)" and it has a yellow exclamation mark beside it.

"There was a problem installing this hardware:

ATI MOBILITY RADEON X700

An error occurred during the installation of the device

Access is denied.
"

I am logged in with an administrator account so I don't know why access is denied.

When I directly try to run the setup file which came with the driver upgrade download, I get this error:

"Setup was unable to complete the installation.
Try to setup your display adapter with a standard VGA driver before running setup.
"

I searched endlessly last night for both messages and nothing I found works, I'd appreciate any help, I am a web designer and need to get back to work but can't really work on this as it is because it's blurry, stretched and scrolling funny without the driver installed properly.

I've uninstalled the drivers in safemode too, rebooted and tried to install the new driver, nothing's working.

Thank you.

Hello temeteus82, thanks for the welcome.

I tried the omega drivers last night and it's still not working. My display adapter in the device manager still says "Video Controller (VGA Compatible)" with a yellow exclamation mark over it, and my display is still fuzzy, so it didn't apply itself correctly. After it installed I then tried to install it via updating the driver in the device manager but got "access denied". I then tried running the setup, and that didn't work either, same messages as reported in my first post.

It seems I need a standard vga installed first but I don't know how to go about getting that, I've tried removing all ATI program via ad/remove programs. I ran driver cleaner pro in safe mode, nothing's working, I'm at a loss....
