How do I do the 9700-9800 softmod with cat 3.4's

Is there a new ati2mtag file available for download so that I can softmod my 9700Pro to 9800 manually using Cat 3.4 drivers. I know the Omega's include this mod but I find them less stable than the standard 3.4's.

No it's not
plain Omega 3.4 driver is same fps as ati 3.4 driver
omega 3.4 driver with 9800 hack
Q3A 1024x768 with all quality options (no AA/AS): goes from 233.8 fps to 248fps
with 6xAA/16x AS goes from 117.8 to 143.2fps!

my understanding was that for the 9700 cards the soft mod would be built in with this catalyst release. I thought only the 9500 needed to soft mods to come up to 9700+ levels. Though I have not checked it personally maybe I should....

I'm going to try soft mod the ATi 3.4's to use the 9800 driver path and see if I get the same results as with the hacked Omega drivers.

Omega's new set includes the 9800 hack for sure. It works just fine on my 9500 Pro

I've soft modded ATi's 3.4
Ran Q3A as I've done before:
1024x768x32 (quality settings, no aa/as): 247.8fps
as above but with 6xaa/16xas: 145.3
Pretty much same fps as hacked omega drivers, so DEFINITELY improvement from hacked driver
Try for yourself if you have any doubts.

Just get rivatuner, and edit the SoftR9x00 w2k.rts file as it says, and then run the ATi cat installer and when it extracts the files, apply the patch, rename the .sys file (the patch will not directly modify the .sy_ file, but will create a .sys file that's modified) to .sy_ and continue with setup

Hey people, I have a 9500 Pro with an unlocked BIOS clocked at 355/320. WinXP now thinks it's a 9700 Pro, so is there anything I can do to get this thing even faster, such as this softmod you're all referring to, eg, the 9700 -> 9800 softmod? Thanks.

Try and see. You're going to have to find out for yourself by playing around.

Okay, should I use Omega's latest drivers? (I'm assuming this softmod is built-in). Or would I be better off applying it some other way? Thanks in advance.

NEW TEST

I tested the new file posted at http://www.maxdownloads.com/%7Eian/wizzard/ (the 9500>9800 one) with the original CAT 3.4

Ok this time i see the same boost as i had with Cat 3.2+Softmod coming from http://www.tommti-systems.de/main-Da...t/ati2mtag.exe ( in fact the new file is also a German modded one i suppose...better job than all the others... )

Let's say that i have f.i. a +100 in 3dMk01 IN ADDITION to the boost i simply saw from CAT 3.2 > CAT 3.4...so i can say this time there IS a difference...but no SMoothvision 2.1 do i think...(i did the test on a late night, so i'll go furter later)

Ho i need to say that i always do my tests on a Fresh copy of XP (thks GHOST), so when there is ANY boost, i can say it is due to the things i test, not a chance of a special combination of an old sytem...
