Radeon 9600 Maintain Aspect Ratio

Hi guys. I have a Radeon 9600 and a widescreen monitor. I've been trying all night long to get it to maintain aspect ratio in applications that aren't widescreen. Old school games like Starcraft. I need it to maintain its 4:3 aspect ratio. Any ideas?

I've tried Omega Drivers and couldn't find anything to help me with this in them. I tried the newest official drivers, but that was complete fail because I can't even get the CCC to work properly. It just flashes at me without letting me do anything. The window would popup and before I could click any option it disappears only to reappear maybe 10 seconds later and repeating itself indefinitely till I end task it's process. Any other people have reports like this?

I really want to get this 4:3 aspect ratio. If drivers can't do it is there any 3rd party software out there that can? Thanks for any help on this guys.

The version you see is ment for laptops with monitors without scaling support, so doesn't work for none laptop displays very well.

There was a new version of the scaling feature (which works great) added using GPU scaling but that only works for more modern graphics cards such as 2x00 or higher.

The newer one wont work on your card because your card isnt powerful enough to use it.

Wow really.. There is absolutely no solution to this problem? I mean even my 7 year old Dell laptop can manage just displaying aspect ratios at 4:3 with integrated Intel graphics why the hell can't a Radeon which is far superior. Ridiculous ATI. Absolutely ridiculous.

Do you know of any 3rd party solution I may be able to use? To force a 4:3 that doesn't stretch the whole width of my 16:10 monitor?

Sorry that you dont like that answer, but its the only answer, there are no 3rd party utils that do what you want.

x1*00 series still wouldn't suffice either? I only have AGP on my computer and going PCIe would essentially mean completely rebuilding my comp just to get this monitor thing to work.

I just went back to my old notes regarding scaling, the R5xx cards have the features needed and since the X1300 upto X1950 are R5x0 based they would have that feature enabled. Not the X1050 type cards though as those dont.

There are 2400 and 2600 AGP cards and 3850 AGP cards anyway so its not like you have to go PCIe.

Thanks Spyre. Just wondering if you or anybody else knows if all the AGP nVidia cards support maintaining aspect ratios with their Forceware drivers?

If I were to buy a new part for this aging computer I would want it as cheap as possible since there is no real point upgrading an old platform.

From what I remember they do but don't quote me on that I haven't used an AGP Nvidia card in years.
