Ati Mobility Radeon Hd 2600 W/downgraded Xp

hey... im super new to messing with drivers and such but ive got a working level experience with messing with things so i hope someone can give me a hand.

i have a new gateway fx laptop model - M-6850FX
i just purchased it from best buy, and immediately vista made me want to stab myself in the face to put and end to my misery. so through various ways i downgraded this vista machine to xp. everything works great finally and im trying to tweak it just the way i want it. now my problem is i want to get the catalyst software on here again so i can configure my multiple monitor setup the way i want it because the windows display proporties isnt quite cutting it.

i currently have installed as my driver ATI MOBILITY RADEON HD 2600 VERISION 8.42.0.0 DATE 1-9-08

ive been to the ati website and looked for the catalyst software for this driver in the preivous drivers section and cant find it. and when i try and download the latest version of my driver and the CCC and install it.. the installer says that it cant find a driver that supports my current configuration and shuts its self off.

am i having problem because im looking in the RADEON section and not the RADEON MOBILITY section on ATI's website? i dont see my chipset in the mobility section.

im kinda lost here.. and i would love if someone could just tell me how i can get ANY version of catalyst control center on here so i can configure my damn multiple monitors to let me use my external as my primary.

thanks in advance for your help.

i tried that just how the instrustions said set by step. then after i installed the modder and ran it it immediately closed and said that it encountered a problem and had to close. i then got a pop up with this

"exception ECException in module mobilitydotnet.exe at 000213bd.
could not load file or assembly 'sorttbls.nlp' or one of its dependecies. the system cannot find the file specified."

do you have .NET framework 2.0 installed and updated? And did you install the MSXML 6.0?

Hmm... Did you install the mod tool to it's default directory? You might try to uninstall the mod tool and then reinstall it.

YES! i repaired my install of framework 2.0 uninstalled all of my ati drivers and deleted them all from the ATI/SUPPORT folder and uninstalled/reinstalled modder, theeen... i redownloaded the catalyst w/ drivers from ati.... followed instructions again and there it is... wow. thanks alot!

i really appriciate this.. i own a graphic deisgn firm and i dont know how i would have been able to work efficiently without this. i reaaallly appriciate this. if you need any logos/graphic design/flyer work or anything let me know.

the next thing i have to figure out is how to disable my touchpad when im using an external mouse... god downgrading from vista is almost as much hassle as vista itself.

ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2600 Audio Issues w/XP Pro

Hi there,

I have the exact same machine (Gateway M-6850FX) that I also downgraded to XP Pro. Since then I can not get the audio to work at all. In the audio devices it will only give one option and that is "ATI HD Audio rear output" which is sending everything to the HDMI port. There is no choice for onboard speakers. The bios settings the laptop show and allow changes to are very limited and none have to do with sound.

Does the solution you got for using multiple monitors have anything to do with the other video board funtions for sound?

Not having any audio is driving me nuts.

Thanks,

Mike

That laptop has Sigmatel's audio chip for the onboard speakers and those drivers you can only get from gateway. But since they supplied the laptop with Vista they don't provide XP drivers for it. So if you don't have driver from microsoft then you should move back to Vista to get audio.

Guess I am screwed. No option to go back to Vista (Home Edition supplied) since I need it for networking at work also. That was the reason to lose Vista and go back to XP Pro.
