TV-out limits Windows resolution and refresh

Hi, Iv'e searched the forums as best I could and found a couple posts with my same problem but the solutions came up short for me. So I'm gonna try a post.

I have a Radeon X850XT w/VIVO running Omega Drivers 3.8.360 (Cat 7.4) connected to 19" Sony Trinitron CRT that I run at 1152x864 100hertz refresh . When I enable TV-out via S-video my CRT stays at 1152x864 100hertz until I try to change resolutions or run a game. The display properties settings then become limtited to 1024x768 and 60hertz refresh. So I can't run games at any resolution or refresh above that unless I disable the TV out, then the display properties offer me the full range of resolutions and refresh that my Sony trinitron driver allows.

What's really bugging me is that I had this same card with the same drivers in another machine and the TV out enabled didn't limit my windows resolutions and refresh rates. I also have another machine with a Radeon 9800Pro using Official ATi catlyst 5.12 drivers hooked to a TV and it also doesn't limit the windows settings with TV-out enabled in clone.

This is a fresh install of WinXP Pro with SP3

-Iv'e tried unintalling drivers cleaning with Driver Cleaner in Safe mode and CCleaner to clean registry. Reinstalled with ATi tray disabled and ATi hotkey poller disabled.
-Tried with and without the WDM driver for the VIVO and VIVO driver from Cat 5.12's.
-Unchecked the "hide modes this monitor cannot display" box in the monitor tab of the advanced display properties.
-Clone mode or theater mode doesn't matter
-DDC is disabled in display properties.
-In the Adaptor tab of display properties the "list all modes" button shows all available CRT driver modes with my prefered one selected.
-Iv'e tapped my head and rubbed my stomach at the same time and no success.

I'm hesitant to think it's the driver version because as I said I had this same card and same driver in another machine and TV-out worked flawlessly connected to the same TV without limiting Windows settings.

My family uses the TV-out to watch movies and I hate them having to enable then disable the TV-out everytime they wanna watch something. I feel like I must be missing something because Iv'e been using Radeon cards for years and no TV-out problems.

The only thing I can think of that's different on this machine build is that Windows XP Pro is updated to SP3 and all other machines have been WinXP SP2.

Sorry for the long post and thanks for reading it.

Johny

Ok I tried something that worked

In the Device Manager under the Monitors tree I have listed,

"Sony CPD-E440 "
"Generic Television"

I opened the properties page for the "Generic Television" and clicked on "Update driver"

Then "Install from a specific location"

Then checked "Don't search. I will choose the driver to install"

Then "Have Disk"

I then browsed to the location of my Sony CPD-E440 Trinitron driver folder and pointed it to the .inf file.

Windows happily installed my CRT driver for the "Generic Television". So now in Device Manager under the Monitor tree I show,

Sony CPD-E440
Sony CPD-E440

I can now use any resolution and refresh on my CRT while TV-out is enabled in Theatre or Clone mode.

I hope this helps someone out there.

Johny
