Drivers problems with making maps for games

Hello people!

I'm a mapping artist, I create maps for games. I make maps for Half Life 1 and Counter-Strike v1.6 (those games are still very popular). You need to make the maps with a editor tool called "Valve Hammer Editor". This editor has a 3dscreen, where you can fly tru your map and select all the things you need. A (laggy) example of this editor is here:
-link

Here is the problem, recently I bought a new monster beast PC to play the newest games and such. I'm also a grapical artist and I do allot with video's. So I also needed a fast PC. Here are the specs:

Asus P5E64 WS Evolution iX48, SATA2 RAID, GLAN
Asus Graphiccard PCI-e Radeon HD4850 1GB DDR3
Cooler Master Powersupply Realpower 620W
Corsair 2x2GB DDR3 SDRAM PC10666 CL9.0 XMS3
Creative Soundcard X-Fi Xtreme Gamer 7.1 PCI
Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 3.16GHz 1333 6MB Box
Maxtor 1TB SATA300 32MB, STM31000340AS

With this PC, I cant run the "old" editor good. You can still fly around in your map. But the problem is you cant sELECT anything anymore. And this had to do with a driver file called "atioglxx.dll". And yes, it actually works if you put in a old driver file into your "D:/Hammer/" folder. If you do this Hammer runs from that driver file. On this point I can select stuff in the 3d box again.

BUT, this is a old driver file. And Because this is such a new pc, the 3d camera box is lagging very hard. And its just not useable anymore.

Is there way howto fix this? Are there any new uptodate drivers that will solve this problem? Or are the driver files easy to edit? I post this on this forumn because it looks like there are allot of proffesionals here on the forum! And I hope you guys can come up with some good tips howto solve this problem. Because with this new videocard I dont want to run hammer with a super old outdated driver file.

note: I got the newest driver file (atioglxx.dll) that works (selecting stuff). From a certain new release its not working anymore.

THANKS ALLOT!

??

http://www.kn00tcn.net/kn-atioglxx.rar here's 7.10's ogl dll, after 7.10 some old opengl code got removed

i guess i should get hammer & try it on my vista with a 4870x2

nothing wrong with using an old driver file to get an old editor working, it's just an editor, as long as it's not horribly slow

also i prefer Quark, quake army knife, to do HL1 maps, seems more intuitive to me

the problem is, when I deinstall al my drivers hammer works correctly. Then I install the 7.11 drivers and it still works very good (hammer). Then, I get the atioglxx.dll file from my system32 folder, copy it into /hammer/, and still hammer is working very good without lagging and slowing down.

Next I deinstall 7.11 and I delete ALL ati files with drivercleaner. Then I install then newest driver for my videocard (ATI RADEON HD4850) but then hammer is very laggy and its going slow.

Is it because I run the newest driver and use a old driver for hammer? Because its weird thats it gonna lagg only when I install the newest driver!
