sapphire radeon 3850 hd agp problem

When i try and run anything graphically intensive my computer crashes. i get a blue screen of death with the error code {0x0000007f(0x00000000,0x00000000,0x00000000,0x000 00000)
And there seems to be a pink box in the lower right hand side of the screen when the error message appears.

When my computer restarts i see a system error box that pops up with :
BCCode : 7f BCP1 : 0000000D BCP2 : 00000000 BCP3 : 00000000
BCP4 : 00000000 OSVer : 5_1_2600 SP : 3_0 Product : 256_1

and when i go to details is gives me these two files
C:\DOCUME~1\Cameron\LOCALS~1\Temp\WERca44.dir00\Mi ni120908-01.dmp
C:\DOCUME~1\Cameron\LOCALS~1\Temp\WERca44.dir00\sy sdata.xml.

I have recently got a new Sapphire Radeon 3850 516mg HD agp card and i purchased 2 new 1 gig sticks of ram to go with it . i though that it was the ram so i put the old ram back in and im still having the same problem .
I have tried a fresh install of the game and also of windows. I have tried a few different drivers and they all seem to be giving me the exact problem.

i have a bg 650 watt power supply
Amd 2800+ 2.08 ghz
shuttle an35400U motherboard
and running sp3 with windows XP
1.5 gig ram using older ram
3.0 with new ram + 1 stick of the old

Any help would be great

Re: sapphire radeon 3850 hd agp problem

couple of things, and im going to say this right up front, the 3850 agps are the buggiest pieces of crap out there.

moving on...

it could be a driver issue. if you try one of the older catalyst 8.Xs with the agp hot fix, it may work.

i see your using a shuttle mobo, if this is in a shuttle case, its probably overheating.

the bfg psu is very weak. going off the top of my head, the 3850 needs a 30amp single 12v rail psu, or two 12v rails at 25a each. your psu has two 12v rails at 20a each.

now, in my personal opinion, i would box the card up and send it back for a refund. couple of reasons here...
1, like i said, theyre are incredibly buggy cards and really not worth the effort.
2, and this is the big one, that cpu you have is bottlenecking this card terribly. take a look at these links...

Re: sapphire radeon 3850 hd agp problem

so in your opinion should i send it back and just put some more money in and get a new board/processor and card. Have any suggestions for a decently priced setup?

Thanks for the info

Re: sapphire radeon 3850 hd agp problem

i would defiantly build a new system. let me know what your budget is and i can piece together a nice system for you. im also going to need to know if your running this in a small form factor case, or a full size tower.

Re: sapphire radeon 3850 hd agp problem

i have an amd case that im pretty happy with that had the shuttle an35. seems like a full tower. if i could get away with just getting new mboard, vid card, ram and then update the hard drives later that would probably be the best. i would say a budget of around 550-650. i have monitor, keyboard and case fans.

Im sending everything back to newegg so i shuld have a credit or they might just credit my card again.

Thanks again

Re: sapphire radeon 3850 hd agp problem

for that kind of budget, you can get one hell of a system. ill throw something together later tonight.

any real preference between amd/intel and a dual core/quad core? a higher higher clocked dual core will be faster then a quad core currently, but down the line, that quad will be faster when games start takeing advantage of 4 cores.

Re: sapphire radeon 3850 hd agp problem

i have had no problems with amd over the years but if you think the intel is better set up something for intel . i have no real product loyalty, just something that works

Re: sapphire radeon 3850 hd agp problem

i can never remember how to link to wish lists...
i went a little over the top, but its a damn fine system.

AMD Phenom 9850 BLACK EDITION 2.5GHz

ASUS M3A79-T Deluxe AM2+/AM2 AMD 790FX 2x Winner of Customer Choice Award

HIS 4870

PC Power & Cooling S61EPS 610W

OCZ Reaper HPC 4GB (2 x 2GB) 1066 1x Winner of Customer Choice Award

Subtotal - 714.95
Rebates - 75.00
Total - 639.95

theres a couple spots you can cut back a bit on. theres a mobo thats a step below this one for 140 or so, and you could go with a 4850 rather then the 4870. would knock off about 70-90 bucks that way.

Re: sapphire radeon 3850 hd agp problem

Looking at that setup you gave me i see that there are no ide drives. as of right now my dvd burner/player is ide and my hard drives. If you have a moment could you set up another rig for about the same price with a different Mboard or new burner and hd. Thank you so much for your time

Re: sapphire radeon 3850 hd agp problem

thats a retail cpu, so it comes with a heatsink.

for vista, your on your own on choosing that one. i havnt gone to it yet.

the motherboard, thats a bit of a problem. the mobo i selected has 1 pata/ide on it, which is all most of them have.
now i did find this, a jetway, that has 2 ports on it. Newegg.com - JetWay HA04-Extreme AM2+/AM2 AMD 790FX ATX AMD Motherboard - AMD Motherboards

i checked the intel mobos, and the most they have on them is two also, with the exception of some oddball that has 6.

what you could do is keep the ide hardrive and throw in a sata burner. theyre quite cheap and you could pick one up for about 25 bucks.

Re: sapphire radeon 3850 hd agp problem

DL-I must just be lucky but my new AGP 3850 is running just fine. I replaced a Radeon 9600 and right now I'm playing Bioshock with all settings at max and not a bit of problem. I have been able to turn every other game, including Crysis all the way up as well. This card has been amazing so far. I have an AMD 3500 w/ 1 gig of ram. I'm adding more next month but this card has added a few more years to this sytem and I couldn't be happier. The difference in the graphics has been like night and day. I also got mine from Newegg.
