having problems with new 9800 pro

I've got a 9800 pro. I'm using the 3.4 drivers. I was having problems with texture corruption in quake 3 games and ut2k3. Also, my desktop occasionally is covered with squares of banded white noise. I'm not overclocking anything. I've done a fresh install of winxp. I used the recommended bios settings from the omegadriver home page. I'm even using much more conservative memory timings then I was and still I have this problem. It seems that the texture corruption in game was solved by disabling fast writes. Does anyone have any idea what might be wrong here?

system specs:
msi kt3ultra motherboard
visiontek 9800 pro
audigy gamer
512M kingston pc2100 ram @cas2
winxp pro sp1
latest official drivers for all hardware.

Thanks for your help folks.

what is your power supply and AGP "x" setting? ie 4x or 8x? if 8x try 4x and vice versa. and I have never known the corruption you are describing to be from software! I would look 100% at hardware. maybe even a bad 9800 pro

AGP is set to 4x I don;t have an 8x board. I'm glad to hear you second my opinion actually. I'm gonna box it back up and trade it in for another one.

I'll post again when I get back with the new one.

will certainly won't hurt anything and that is exactly what I would do. if you had another pc to test it in it might help but an exchange is the best choice... GOOD LUCK!

and most of all... welcome to driverheaven!

The only other computer I have available is a mac laptop. No swapping vid cards there ;-)

I exchanged the card. It's been in the machine for about 10 minutes. No errors yet but I haven't played any games yet. I'm gonna go do the stress test now. Wish me luck.

Thanks for the hospitality too.

It's been a day and I've not had any of the problems with the nnew card that I had with the old one. I played quake3 for a few hours, max payne, medal of honor and ut2k3 all without any of the errors I was having before. Damn this is a kick ass vid card. I haven't been this blown away since I upgraded from a rage fury to a V5.
