Freelancer crashes with 9700 pro
When I run freelancer and start a new game the game freezes about 45 seconds in to it, but the sound continues on as normal for about 30 seconds and then my computer locks completely.
I've tried using 3.4 and 3.1 drivers but both have the same problem. I have now put my old geforce3 in and it plays fine. |

old GPU's and new GPU's often do not play together nicely on the same OS install. if you want your brand new shiny 9700 pro to work properly and at 100%, you really should consider formatting and reinstalling your windows install... In the long run it will be far quicker that posting up, waiting for replies, testing, posting back, troubleshooting then in the end still having to reinstall OS anyhow. The GPU is not a stick of ram you're putting in it is a critical piece of your pc and plugs in all over the place (c:\windows, reg, etc...) and you really should not just swap them out as if its were ddr.... I mean you can but 99% of the time you will get problems. |

Any time you put in a new GPU (regardless of Nvidia or ATI) you should always reinstall the OS.... Yeah, I know some people just switch GPUs on the go with no ill effects but honestly, those people are the minority. Don't blame ATI cards for the problem when in fact it has nothing to do with ATI but rather the OS....anyhow, this has absolutly nothing to do with helping this guy solve his problem so lets just wait and see how its going with him

When I got the card a few months ago I re-formatted my computer after I put the new card in so it's nothing to do with the nvidia video drivers.
Here's my computers spec: Asus A7N8X Nforce2 Motherboard Athlon 2000+ CPU @ 2GHz (also tried at default speed) 1GB PC2700 RAM Powercolor 9700 Pro SB Audigy 80GB 7200 rpm Segate HDD 60GB 7200 rpm IBM HDD Windows XP Pro SP1 I've tried these games and they work fine: Unreal tournament 2003 Unreal 2 Battlefield 1942 Half-life GTA Vice city I have also tried putting down the D3D acceleration slider down a couple of notches which was suggested for people who have been having trouble with the text in this game. |

I had the same problems with my Gigabyte "Granite Bay" m/board.
I had to drop the AGP rate to 4x from 8x and the problems went away. |
