Cannot find ATI Mobility Radeon 9000/9100 IGP driver

I am a complete noob when it comes to updating drivers.
I have a HP compaqnx9110 with ATI Mobility Radeon 9000/9100 IGP Graphic card. The driver I have now is version 6.14.10.6436
Some months ago I tried to update the driver through the HP driver update site and also using drivermax. I downloaded the new driver (8.501.1.0) and installed but the old driver remained on the system even though I saw an installation screen from ATI.
I quit trying at that moment.
Now I stumbled upon a forum where it was said that this is normal with portable driver updates and a link to your Mobilty Modder.
I want to try to install the most recent driver but can't find it on the ATI site (they don't list the 9000/9100) and on your site I can only find Catalist numbers.
Which catalist download do I need for my card.
Operating system is XP professional

Hi there and welcome to DriverHeaven!

For IGP that old I would not use the newest drivers since generally they don't have any new optimizations for the older cards. As far as I remember ATI dropped the 9000 series in CAT 6.11 so I would recommend to use either CAT 7.1 or 6.12 for that system. You suggest 2 drivers : Cat 7.1 or 6.12. Which should I choose?
The 6.12 would have to be CCC. What does this mean?
As I said I'm a complete noob.

Do the Catalist numbers have anything to do with the version numbers? As I said I have 6.14......

It would probably be safest to back-up the old driver before experimenting.
Can I do this with Windows (where?) or with Drivermax?
