My Process used to be.
1.Uninstall boot
2. Regcleaner boot
3.Install new drivers

On both reboots I used to be 'Prompted' by Windows XP to install the Drivers to which I just cancelled, but now Windows is being, Frankly a little rude and just installing them without permission.

I don't feel like disconnecting my LAN everytime I Install drivers, especially since they seem to be leaking every 12Hours

Nice tip in any event.
I've found that if you have 'Windows Update' set to either of the automatic settings, drivers will be reinstalled automatically. Just disable it and the guides will work fine.

I have gotten excellent results [for a change] in uninstalling and reinstalling drivers using the Gurm plan with Edoardo's modification about SP1... has made things more predictably successful if not short and sweet

One note -- in Step 5 where the instruction is to go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -- SYSTEM -- ControlSet001 -- Control -- Video and delete certain keys -- and then go to ControlSet002 and do likewise: I found that I have no ControlSet002, but do have ControlSet003 and ControlSet004, each with identical keys containing ATI data or values and requiring deletion. I also note that I had great problems deleting one of the keys in each of the controlsets [same number] until I expanded it all the way out and deleted the end of the tree first and then worked back to the key itself. That was a key containing entries referencing Catalyst 2.4.

Much thanks for an invaluable quide!

Well I did my best to read up on any problems... and suggested fix's... and took out all ati drivers... reg's.. even files.... after i was back at default.. i installed omega's.. and now.. i'm having the same problem as RIV@NVX

After rebooting.. went and used multires... to lock the refresh rate.. then went into the control panel..didn't quite notice it was ALOT slower yet... saw smartgart.. all off... tried loading bf1942.. wouldn't load.. tried loading impossible creatures.. and it wouldn't load.. TRIED looking for any setup.. finally found out that impossible creatures had one.. then it tells me i dont have a supported video card... and to reinstall drivers...

my ONE question... i had the directx 9.0 b3 i downloaded from ATI when they were offering there demo's a while ago...

would this be my problem?
and if it is.. should i start backing up stuff? and reformat and go back to windows 98? =)

rolleyes 1-Step Guaranteed Removal...

(and if anyone's typed this before me, please spank me soundly)

CLEAN INSTALL!!!

Sheesh...I never had patience for all those damned "removal" programs or guides - you want something out - Format It Out!

Hey - isn't that somebody's corporate slogan or something?

Hehe, with my guide, you don't need to format. It's just a waste of time. You may need to format for other reasons though
