Fast writes?
Hi, I have a ASUS A7N8X V2.0 DELUXE with 9700 pro and the omega3.5's...I wanted to know if I should have fastwrites on or off? They are currently on and I don't know if I should turn them off or not...I seen a lot of people saying to turn them off cause they dont work, but if they didn't work for me wouldn't I crash or somthing?...What should I do?

You can try them on or off. Most of the issue's was when the new cats first came out and the R300 cards. Try them on and if you have no problems then leave them on. If you do turn them off. I currently have mine on and have no problems. Hope this helps.

Your not going to break anything if you turn them off or on.
For the most part, it depends on each system out there. Some people have issues, while others dont. The people who do have issues, they usually suffer with degraded performance. So go ahead and turn them off if u like. Do some benchmarks and run some games to see if you notice any performance change.I have mine set to off, and i have no issues... Cheers' |

Well I just did a benchmark with stock barton speeds and stock 9700 speeds, Here are the results. 14106 w/o FW and 13967 with FW.. I didnt test it twice with the FW but I think I might to check the consistancy...Could this just be 3dmark doing its usuall score bounce or is FW just slower than no FW...

Yeah it could be 3dmark doing its usual inconsitent deal, but I am leaning towards it having to do with fastwrites. You could pull a couple more benches with the same setup to give you a little more of an idea but i would just leave fastwrites off. I don't believe fastwrites caused that major of a performance hit for anyone, as I think it has more to do with stability issues. Nice system by the way!

are you changing FW in the BIOS or in smartgart? because when I change in SG I reboot into BIOS and they are in fact still set to OFF. in other words, sure it changes from on to off and vice versa in SG but does in no way affect my BIOS settings or FW at all....

Yep, I did more benchmarks and it was totally the FW...It stayed consistant under 14K and without FW it stayed consistant over 14K. Ill keep the FW off. btw thanks
I like my puter My volcano 11 is on the way and then ill crank my FSB back up to 200 where I already know it works like a dream I score over 17K with my overclocked settings
