exclamation Control Panel installation error (0x80070725)

Sup y'all,

I am able to install the ATI Cat drivers (3.4 or 3.5), however when i try to install the control panel I get a installshield error (error number 0x80070725 ... DLL function call failed: ISLAYER.ISLIsATICard). I tried to install the omega drivers yesterday and it runs up until the point where the control panel is being installed, I get the same error.

I checked out the installshield support site and it tells me to check the user shell folders (All users\Desktop, \Start Menu, \Programs, \Start Up) and they exist.

my system specs (Proliant 6000 ... I know, dont ask )

W2K Advanced Server
PIII XEON 500MHz w 1MB Cache (x 4)
4.4GB ECC RAM
SmartArray 3200 RAID
18.2GB WUSCSI-3 (x4)
9.1GB WUSCSI-3 (x1)
Disabled the onboard video (ATI Rage IIC 2MB)
installed ATI 9100 128MB (PCI Version)

I get 3043 on 3DMark 2001 SE. I play RavenShield and get from 10-50 FPS. Getting the card to work is not the issue here, just utilizing control panel for tweaks...I believe I read a post where users can get this card to hit a consistent 50-80FPS in RavenShield (well comparded to 25FPS avg). I am not a tweaker, just trying to improve my gaming experience...arent we all?

I did not find a similar post with this error message, so any info here is appreciated. And let me know if you

Cheers,

I suspect that only an ATI engineer can help you here - unless you fancy trying our drivercleaner (link on front page) or re-installing your OS clean

Thanks for the response UberLord.

BUT, I did reinstall my WIN2K adv server several times AND tried to install the ATI control panel w/o success. I tried to install it on WIN2K no SP, SP3, and SP4. NADA!

I can ususaly trouble shoot well, but no luck so far only guesses. I know this is a very OLD mobo (server released in '98) and the omega drivers were causing problems (i.e. the Radeon probe and OC utility kept erroring out). Maybe the install is trying to access/update some low-level info for the PCI card and the mobo cant handle it? I am guessing a HW issue ...

Another possibility I have been contemplating. The server has an integrated gfx card and even though I disable it via bios and jumper, the card shows installed in windows. I try to uninstall it but it gets reinstalled automatically. Only when I reset the jumper will I get a video signal. Is it possible that the control panel is trying to access this gfx card first? The Rage IIC is nt supported for the radeon drivers/control panel...duh!

I know I should get a regular desktop , but just want to squeeze out more functionality from my server.

Thanks!

Based on your error, I'd say yes.

I'd also like to say that ATI's installation program really sucks. The drivers are good once installed, but installing them in the first place can be a PITA.

LOL - PITA is ATI Pain backwards

As another idea, try disabling the integrated card through device manager

I know there is some truth to your PITA theory!

About device manager, I cant disable it, only have the option to uninstall. Amybe ATI generally does not support Mutli gxfcard environment when installing dirver (espc. if one of them does not work with the drivers/cntl panel).

Well, I guess I am screwed and will have to live with my meager 25FPS avg....Bah!!!

Thanks for you help! . Any chance a ATI engineer would look in this forum/post?

Cheers,
