Re: ATi Radeon Mobility Modded Catalyst/Drivers for Windows XP 32-bit (Updated)
Sorry for the double post, but I'm having problems updating to these v11.9 drivers.
When doing a manual install/update via Device Manager, it says that it wasn't able to find any better match/suitable drivers. Tried updating in Safe Mode but also without any results. My gfx card is a Mobility Radeon HD 3650, so there shouldn't be any problem updating. I've checked "CX125297.inf" and the line "ATI MOBILITY RADEON HD 3650" = ati2mtag_M76, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_9591" is there, but should there be any more lines referring to 3650? EDIT: Problem solved! Had to choose "Don't search. I will choose the driver to install", deselect any driver on the list, click "Have Disk..." and then go the the .inf file location, etc. (In Safe Mode to avoid any errors) Working good as always

Hello,
after a couple of hours searching whole the net to get the new drivers for my graphic card, trying Mobility Modder by myself etc. I found this thread. I have ASUS M51SE laptop with ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3470, Win XP SP3 Professional. I've never thought about updating the drivers, until today that I've found out there's hardware acceleration support in newest Firefox for WebGL, but it requires modern version of drivers (about:support said to update to at least 10.6). @dansrfe: I've found your 11.4 modded drivers (ha, the power of internet; I will not publish the link however if you don't want it) and it seems it works just fine. I've launched Firefox 7 and now it says in about:support that WebGL is supported, and I was able to run those examples: Demo Repository - WebGL Public Wiki and they run very smoothly. Thanks for the drivers. I will surely report back if I encounter any issues; if not, it means everything works fine. Regards. Edit: Just one thing about installation. I had to choose "Don't search, I will choose the driver to install" instead of "Include this location in search" and then choose "HD 3470", otherwise Windows kept telling me that I already had super awesome 3-years-old drivers and there is no need to upgrade, which was clearly bullshit. Re: ATi Radeon Mobility Modded Catalyst/Drivers for Windows XP 32-bit (Updated)
@dansrfe - you seem to have done a great job, but you seem to have taken down the links now.
I'm about to buy a new notebook but have ruled out one with the 6990m because I need an XP system for various old work apps and devices. So it looks like I'm forced to go Nvidia. Am I correct in this fatalism, or would I be able to get a 6990m functional? Also - please, please, put maybe one of the links back? |

Re: ATi Radeon Mobility Modded Catalyst/Drivers for Windows XP 32-bit (Updated)
Just one thing to add to my previous post.
The things I described before referred to laptop's built-in display (1440x900). It worked just fine after installing modded 2011.04 and 2011.09 drivers. I have also external monitor: Belinea 1925 S1W LCD (nominal resolution also 1440x900). This monitor worked fine with original 2008 laptop-bundled Radeon drivers. Little side story a.k.a off-topic: Some time ago I had very weird issue with the monitor (the colors were very weird, like 'colorized', with the 'dye' depending on the monitor's RGB temperature settings -- but this is not related to the topic -- RTV repair guy flushed & newly loaded hardware drivers of the monitor, so now the colors are normal. He said he's never seen case like that). The things is now, that the external monitor does not comply with modded Radeon drivers (neither 2011.09 nor 2011.04). Maximum resolution I could achieve was 1280x900 or sth like that, I don't remember, maybe 1280x1024. When I tried setting the native 1440x900, monitor was switching off and OSD display was saying "Out of frequency" (same with generic Microsoft monitor drivers, and the ones I've got from Belinea). I rolled back to 2008 original laptop drivers and then I was able to run 1440x900 on Belinea. So, finally, the corollary is: modded drivers sometimes work fine, but sometimes not or not fully. |

Re: ATi Radeon Mobility Modded Catalyst/Drivers for Windows XP 32-bit (Updated)
Hi, all!
I have notebook HP G62-a14ER, there are two videocards, one of them is ATI Mobility HD 5470 ( PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_68E0&SUBSYS_143A103C&REV_00\4&2A7 D5098&0&0008) I can't find driver win XP. I've installed the latest Omega Drivers, but it doesn't help. I understand, that win 7 is good, but i need to use win XP for some tasks on my notebook. |

September 2011 link is back up. I trust you guys to reply with your experiences now otherwise I will stop updating this thread and remove the links forever.
Please don't break my trust and take 10 seconds of your time to comment on how the installation went for you. That's all I ask. I don't even need a thanks. |

Re: ATi Radeon Mobility Modded Catalyst/Drivers for Windows XP 32-bit (Updated)
Thanks!!! What would you say the chances are of this working on 6990? If it doesn't work, what scale of 'wrong' would we be expected to see? I mean, is it more likely to be at the frequent BSOD -side or just minor effects not displaying correctly? If minor effects are more likely, I'll risk it and happily report back.

Worked for me, but the driver is NOT modded properly, as OpenGL isn't working.

Thanks for your comprehension dansrfe, been using v11.09 until now without any much hassle, almost flawlessly, besides the little glitches described before.
Feel free to mod and release updated drivers from time to time, if you have the time/patience, we'll all appreciate it

Re: ATi Radeon Mobility Modded Catalyst/Drivers for Windows XP 32-bit (Updated)
Wow, great. Good to have a modded driver.
Everything went fine while installing. (edit) Have got a CQ56 203 SG - embetted HD 4250, AMD 800 series chip set, AMD Athlon II P360 (2x @ 2,3GHz), 3GB DDR3. It is some tima ago ... was testing this driver here, got 90 points at heaven bench (DX9, WinXP 32) ... later I tried the same thing with 11.11c and got 90 points, with plug in wall. With the same driver and feeded with electrons from akku I got 61 at the use of 8% power in max. performance mode. In max. battery mod I only got a score of 42 Points at the use of 9 - 10 % Power *wtf*. Now I am wondering ... is it absolutely recomended to use a mobility modded driver? First, with driver given out from HP, I got a score of 88P / 11% (max performance) | 50 / 8% (max battery) | 88P with electricity outa wall. all right, I solved the problem: The system runs an other "energy administration" with plug in. That is the reason for differences to the later driver. btw ... 3Dmark06 score is 10 to 20 points lower with latest driver (getting now 1915) Last edited by Zone2; Dec 5, 2011 at 07:32 PM. Thanks for the v11.11 drivers.
Everything installed fine in the end, had to do like in post #61, but this time in normal mode, because Windows in safe mode couldn't find some files and gave some errors when installing the .inf. |

Re: ATi Radeon Mobility Modded Catalyst/Drivers for Windows XP 32-bit (Updated)
Hello,
works lika a charm. I mod my drivers myself (change .inf file) but I do have problems to make CC to install through setup.exe - how do you skip check routine so that CC can be installed through setup.exe Dansrfe? It always works with your packages. I normaly use Ati Tray Tools so it is not a big deal, but it would be nice to know how you do it. Thank you for your efforts. with best regards, L. |

Re: ATi Radeon Mobility Modded Catalyst/Drivers for Windows XP 32-bit (Updated)
Hi
I am having trouble getting this driver to install on my Dell n5010. Hardware is Mobility 5470. After extracting download, I upgrade driver manually, but have to go to "have disk" as searching does not find driver. In the list I get from the "Have Disk" there are several (4 or 5) items listed as Radeon 5470, so I select the first one. I get a warning that the driver may not match the hardware but carry on, then the install stop with a message "Cannot copy file ati2mtag.sy_" and asks for it's location. BUT the file is in the correct location, just won't copy. If I skip this file, I start getting the same message over and over for many other files... EDIT: I just noticed when trying again that many of the files have an underscore as the last character of suffix, is this something that could be causing problems? i.e. should the above be ati2mtag.sys or .sy_ Any Ideas on what I've missed out? EDIT 2: I just succeeded in getting it to work by simply shifting the \XP_INF directory to C:\Temp\, effectively shortening the path considerably, and then the 'update driver manually' worked... Cheers, this thread has been super helpful... Ian Last edited by ianf; Jan 4, 2012 at 11:25 AM. |

Re: ATi Radeon Mobility Modded Catalyst/Drivers for Windows XP 32-bit (Updated)
Hi guys,
Thanks so much for the great efforts on getting the latest ATI drivers and CCC to work in XP! ![]() I am using your modded drivers and CCC package on a N5010 laptop with a Radeon HD 5470 running 32bit XP. Actually, to get it to work I had to add the following lines to the CX128238.inf file: Quote:
... although only for the laptop monitor so far. What I am trying to do is getting HDMI output to work with my LG TV... so far without luck. In CCC, on the Displays Manager / Displays Properties page, I clicked the Detect Displays button, but the second monitor on that little screen is always grayed-out. When I click on it, it asks me if I want to enable it, but all that does is cause a short screen flicker and the second monitor symbol is grayed-out again. ![]() I tried to re-start with the HDMI cable plugged in or not plugged in, no matter what I do, the TV always displays the "No Signal" message on the screen. I noticed, however, that if I go to the Input Select menu on the TV and the Laptop has the HDMI cable plugged-in, the HDMI input seems to be "active" (somehow highlighted compared to the other, disconnected inputs). So it seems like the TV at least detects the presence of the laptop when the cable is connected, no so the laptop though. ![]() Any ideas on how to get it to work? Is there anyone out there who connected a HDMI TV successfully with the N5010 running XP/32? ![]() EDIT1: Maybe I am in the wrong sub-forum? Last edited by friendfx; Jan 24, 2012 at 03:35 AM. |

Re: ATi Radeon Mobility Modded Catalyst/Drivers for Windows XP 32-bit (Updated)
That is one of the features that you lose by using modded generic drivers...
Normally, people that use modded generic drivers for their laptops can't get the HDMI output to work. That is one of the reasons that some notebook brands/manufacturers, like Toshiba, "forbid" AMD to release drivers compatible with their notebooks. |

Re: ATi Radeon Mobility Modded Catalyst/Drivers for Windows XP 32-bit (Updated)
I've posted this issue before, but (of course) little to no info regarding a solution, so I figured maybe someone in this thread might have answers...?
MacBPro XP SP3 (via bootcamp) CPU: C2D 2.16Ghz ATI mobility X1600 (256M) GPU: M56, 90nm Driver Version (MModded): ati2mtag 8.593.100.0 (Catalyst 10.2) <---- This is directly from GPU-Z Things have been running pretty smooth since I upgraded from ~8.5 to 10.2. No BSODs, no freezing, a few VPU recoveries, but I'm running split screens of diff sizes so... After reading all the posts and seeing others with "legacy" GPU/rigs having problems/BSODs, I don't want to tempt fate (11.x - is 12.x even possible?) and fubar stability for hours of trouble shooting (cursing and tensing up lmao) to get things back to stability (10.2) 1) Can someone tell me the limits of this hardware regarding Catalyst drivers; can I go past 10.2, and to what version before they discontinue support (absolutely)? 2) Is there a special install method that I need to undertake? ![]() Thanks all. |

Hi Dan,
I don't had the opportunity to test the drivers because the WinXP don't recognize my damm HDD. I was planning to install a partition with WinXP to play games, since I can't have an good game experience under my Fedora Core. But I just forgot how Windows sucks after long time under Linux. I will test under VirtualBox soon, but as far as I readed I am sure they gonna work. I'm planning to buy an new laptop with nVidia cause the last ATI Mobility series seems to work with best performance only under Win7. In the last Linux distros the ATI proprietor drivers runs like shit and conflict with xorg and gnome shell, and the open source ones can't deliver an gaming experience with WineHQ. I'm very disappointed with AMD, cause I don't want never ever again use Windows 7, but it seems they are trying to make it the only option. For now I just need to figure out how to make WinXP detect my Hard Disk. Till then no Skyrim for me D: And btw, thank you very much. Rep added. BUMP! Hello, does anyone have any info on the driver limits for the X1600mobile? I've searched the site and web; apparently I'm the ONLY person with a MacBookPro and this card that runs Catalyst 10.2, XP and legacy games? Come on... srsly?

@ErikLehnsherr: I would do yourself a little "sacrifice" and install Win7 x64, even if it is only to play Skyrim (you can get modded drivers for Win7 in another section of this forum).
To play Skyrim you don't need a fantastic GPU, only if you want to run the game maxed out (I play it in Ultra Settings but with AA off with my 3650HD), since Skyrim is more CPU than GPU demandant. I played Skyrim under WinXP for some weeks and had constant CTDs and less performance than I have now under Win7 x64, and until now I hadn't a since CTD under Win7 x64 in months. And remember, the High Resolution Texture Pack DLC is not compatible with WinXP, some folks are complaining about it. |
